Why Sildil?
The name was generated a long time ago by a 'name your elf' website and has stuck with me over many years. I've long since lost the original association and now use it as my website name at sildil.net.
I was amused to see that a jar of pickled herring in Ikea is also called 'sildil'. Since I am very fond of pickled herring, it seemed right to continue with the name in my etsy shop!
I have always been an illustrator at heart and would spend each and every day drawing if at all possible, whether in real pencil, pen and ink or their digital equivalent.
I take my subjects from life or from my own photographs, then scan and colour the drawings digitally. My subject inspirations are landscapes and details, forgotten places and the untidiness of everyday living. My working inspiration is from the ‘ligne claire’ work of Hergé, and the paintings and prints of Patrick Caulfield.
I now produce stained glass panels using traditional techniques. Each piece is hand painted and then fired in a kiln before being put together using lead cames and solder. Each panel is unique.
