Mi visión ha sido crear mi propio negocio a medida para seleccionar personalmente hermosas joyas de artesanos locales y ofrecerlas en todo el mundo. Crecí en Estados Unidos, pero hoy vivo en la increíble India con mi icónico esposo indio y Sumi (nuestra mezcla de fox terrier). He pasado la mayor parte de mi vida adulta viajando por el mundo y viviendo en varios países. Como ciudadana global, siempre me han fascinado todas las formas de arte de cada cultura, así como las tradiciones históricas de cada país.

¿Por qué elijo vender joyas de piedras preciosas y plata esterlina de la India?
Permítanme retroceder un poco. En 2014, encontré marionetas rajastaníes hechas a mano en el Cost Plus World Market de Los Ángeles. Me fascinaron tanto que compré algunas y volví a casa a investigar sobre ellas. ¡Inmediatamente me intrigó Rajastán y la India, todo gracias a esta marioneta india en particular! ¡Terminé viajando sola seis meses después de comprarlas! Me cambió la vida para siempre. Me enamoré de la India y sentí una profunda compasión por ella.
Durante este viaje, conocí a algunos artesanos que hacían preciosos pendientes tribales de plata esterlina y joyas de granate y rubí. ¡Por supuesto, compré algunas piezas! Al regresar a Estados Unidos, las joyas se convirtieron en recuerdos e impresiones de mi viaje. Cada vez que las usaba, los recuerdos de todas las personas, lugares y olores que conocí en la India cobraban vida en mí. Las joyas me sirvieron para recordar esta increíble época de mi vida.
De repente, se hizo evidente que mi fascinación por la India, mi profunda resonancia con las piedras preciosas y el apoyo a los artesanos locales eran una combinación perfecta para crear joyas genuinas de piedras preciosas y plata esterlina para ofrecerle.
La joyería es un adorno personal. Su origen se remonta a más de 5000 años, y estoy seguro de que existía mucho antes. Era una antigua expresión de identidad. Indicaba la jerarquía social de una persona, así como su estatus de riqueza y poder. Se utilizaba en muchas civilizaciones como protección y talismán. En la India, el horizonte de la joyería se extendió desde el antiguo valle del Indo hasta las cortes de los imperios mogoles. Durante esta época, las piedras preciosas estaban muy influenciadas por la plata y el oro.
Hoy en día, usamos joyas por moda y felicidad. También las exhibimos para simbolizar compromisos y honrar etapas de nuestra vida. Las joyas son una forma de reflejar y lucir los hitos que alcanzamos.

Welcome! You’ve found Śilpa Sabi! A unique/boutique online shop that curates beautiful & genuine 925 sterling silver & gemstone jewelry from artisans in India. The mission is to unite lovers of silver jewelry, gems, & art together to support collaborations & cultures (in this case — India) which are keeping this craftsmanship alive.
It’s been a vision of mine to create my own bespoke business to personally curate beautiful jewelry from local artisans & offer it around the globe. It’s a way to keep the global landscape of artistic beauty, & the unique history of quality jewelry, connected to us in a fast paced world.
I grew up in America, but today I live in incredible India with my iconic Indian husband & Sumi (our fox terrier mix). Most of my adult life has been spent traveling the globe & living abroad in several countries. Being a global citizen, I was always drawn with admiration to all art forms in each culture as well as the historical traditions of each country.
The question was, “How could I help showcase some of the beautiful artisans craftsmanship to the world while also contributing to causes that are bettering our world?” All the while — how could I give customers something truly special, & beautiful, that they can enjoy for their own journeys?
Why do I choose to sell gemstone & sterling silver jewelry from India?
Let me backtrack a bit. In 2014, I found handmade Rajasthani puppets at Cost Plus World Market in Los Angeles. They were so fascinating to me that I bought a few and went home to research about them. It instantly opened a floodgate of intrigue for Rajasthan, & India, all because of this particular Indian puppet! I ended up taking a solo trip there six months after purchasing the puppets! It changed my life forever. I fell in love with India and felt a deep compassion for it.
During this trip, I had met a few artisans who made gorgeous sterling silver tribal earrings & garnet, & ruby, jewelry. Of course, I bought a few pieces! When I returned home to America…the pieces of jewelry became reminders, & impressions, of my trip. Each time I wore it —the memories of all the people, places, & smells I had encountered in India became alive in me again. The jewelry served as a way to remember this very incredible time in my life.
It became serendipitously clear that my fascination for India, my deep resonance with gemstones, & supporting local artisans was a perfect blend for curating genuine gemstone & sterling silver jewelry to offer to you.
Jewelry is a personal adornment. It can be traced back over 5,000 years ago, & I am certain it existed long before then. It was an ancient expression of the self. It told someone’s social hierarchy & the status of wealth & power. It was used in many civilizations for protection & as a talisman. In India, the horizon of jewelry made its way from the ancient Indus Valley all the way to the courts of the Mughal Empires. During this time, gemstones were highly influenced with silver & gold.
We wear jewelry today for fashion & happiness. we also showcase it to symbolize commitments and honor stages along our life’s path. Jewelry is a way to reflect & wear the milestones we encounter.
