My personal story...
I have been crafting and making as long as I can remember. I grew up watching my mother and grandmother drinking tea at the kitchen table that was always covered with the latest project. I was taught to sew, knit and crochet by the age of five. Creating was always part of daily life.
In my 20's I taught myself how to make stained glass and began my own business, selling at many events around New England and New York and making custom stained glass windows. I loved the process of combining art and the technical challenges of design. I specialized in medieval, art nouveau, nature, Celtic and fantasy inspired designs. I did this for many years and decided that it was time for a new path.
I first started working with metal clay in 2005. I loved it immediately! I was finishing school, then life took some unexpected turns and it was too expensive for me to pursue working with silver. I practiced sculpting with polymer clay for a few years, as I dreamed of the things I would make in silver, leaves and natural stones someday. I filled many journals full of sketches, designs and daydreams during those years. Finally, I was able to start the journey of learning and creating.
What ultimately motivated me to quit my job and start Silvan Arts was my young daughter. I became her sole living parent when she was four years old and I could not tolerate being in an office away from her, missing so much crucially important time with her, while I barely made enough of a paycheck to survive. With the support of friends and family, I am so grateful to have had the chance to make Silvan Arts successful. The drive to make a better life for us was and is the motivation that keeps me inspired, creating and working as hard as I can through Silvan Arts. I am honored and grateful to be creating.
I am self taught and every piece is designed and crafted by myself. Every leaf and stone that I use has it's own unique story to tell. I aspire to provide jewelery that conveys the love of nature that we share and inspires your imagination. I hope to make pieces that speak to you personally, that you will treasure for a lifetime.
