Sempre amei criar coisas, e fui para a faculdade sem saber no que se formar. Claro, eu amo matemática, mas eu sabia que não queria ser apenas um matemático. Então decidi estudar Figurino para Teatro. Aprendi sobre material, maquiagem, costura, joias e a arte de beber vinho.
Depois de me formar, tornei-me gerente na Gap e depois na J. Crew. Amei isso durante anos. Foi rápido, eu estava cercado de grandes colegas de trabalho, e eu tenho descontos incríveis em roupas. Também aprendi a administrar um negócio, a arte do atendimento ao cliente e os relatórios da P&L.
Comecei a sentir que meu tempo com o varejo estava chegando ao fim. Eu queria passar um tempo com a família, aproveitar as férias, e não ficar de pé por mais de 9 horas por dia. Então eu me demiti.
Por capricho, comprei um conjunto de selos de metal, e comecei a carimbar tudo à vista. Meus primeiros cem selos eram horríveis. Eu não entendia o espaçamento, o quão difícil de bater, ou que metal usar. Eu assisti horas de vídeos, li tutoriais, e aprendi que eu precisava de mais 80 suprimentos se eu quisesse realmente fazer isso. Comecei minha loja, e continuei aprendendo.
Faço isso há mais de seis anos, e estou mais feliz do que nunca. Claro, às vezes tenho 11 horas de trabalho, mas é para o meu produto e meus clientes. Tenho sorte de ter um parceiro de apoio que vai empacotar comigo tarde da noite e me dar de volta esfregões depois de longos dias curvados sobre a minha mesa.

I've always loved creating things, and went to college unsure of what to major in. Sure, I love math, but I knew I didn't want to be just a mathematician. So I decided to study Costume Design for Theatre. I learned about material, makeup, sewing, jewelry, and the art of wine drinking.
After graduating, I became a manager at Gap and then J. Crew. I loved it for years. It was fast paced, I was surrounded with great co-workers, and I got amazing discounts on clothing. I also learned how to run a business, the art of customer service, and P&L reports.
I began to feel that my time with retail was coming to a close. I wanted to spend time with family, to enjoy holidays, and to not stand on my feet for 9+ hours a day. So I quit.
On a whim, I bought a set of metal stamps, and started stamping everything in sight. My first hundred stamps were awful. I didn't understand spacing, how hard to hit, or what metal to use. I watched hours of videos, read tutorials, and learned that I needed about 80 more supplies if I wanted to actually do this. I started my shop, and kept learning.
I've been doing this for over six years now, and I'm happier than ever. Sure, I sometimes have 11 hour workdays, but it's for my product and my customers. I'm lucky to have a supportive partner who will package with me late into the night and give me back rubs after long days hunched over my table.
