HISTORY / In 2011, Small Batch Production was born out of a love for simple design, natural fibers, and common everyday objects.
MAKER / Oh, me? I'm Claire Tipley. I live and work in upstate New York. I really love gardening and making that morning cup of coffee last as long as possible.
MATERIALS / I use a lot of linen, hemp, and organic cotton. I like to source materials that have a decent social and environmental history.
PROCESS / My enthusiasm for a certain fiber or particular combination of materials tends to spark each new project. Then I deliberate and experiment with the construction. I like to rely on functional elements – like the simple corner loop of a dish towel – to focus and guide my designs. When an item is finally ready for production, it is cut, pressed, and sewn entirely in the Small Batch Production workshop.
