Creating is a Lifelong Passion
As far back as I can remember I was building, creating, and fixing things around me. Whether it was a bug-shaped Pinewood Derby car, tuning-up my parent's lawnmower, creating a chasing LED circuit, or building a 14-foot hovercraft I've never been able to leave things well enough alone. Some call those tendencies "The Knack" (for you Dilbert fans) but I think it has allowed me to see the world differently. Instead of just dealing with the way things are, I dive in head-first and work to make them better, more efficient, or just look cool.
Given my history of using tools to make, build, and repair, my endeavor into 3D Printing was pretty natural. I learned about the RepRap project and purchased my first 3D Printer kit in 2011 - A RepRap Huxley. I spent hours assembling, measuring, tweaking, and learning Arduino code to get the printer working-ish. It ended up making some some ugly first prints, but the printer got shelved due to other projects and priorities. Fast forward to 2020 and my passion was reignited when a Kickstarter for the Creality CR-6SE got me back into the hobby. I now had a [mostly] reliable printer that could actually make useful objects.
Over the years I've used my engineering and CAD training to create useful and sometimes weird items on the 3D Printer to use around the house. Shop vacuum hose splitters, alignment jigs for cabinets, Uranium Glass plate holders, lawnmower parts...the list goes on. But all of these items were for me, things I found useful for my personal projects. A friend recently suggested that I'm not the only one that will likely find the things I created useful and should sell them.
This brings me to today and Spool Forge, LLC. This business is a way for me to share the wonderful things I've created with the world. Since starting, we've added more, faster printers and expanded our available material portfolio. I acknowledge that the 3D Printed Product market is crowded, but our quality and attention to detail is what sets us apart. We don't print models made by anyone else, everything we offer is designed in-house. We design for 3D Printing from the start so that prints are successful with minimal waste and fewer failed prints. As I grow the shop and start adding items that I find useful, cool, and life-improving, I hope you find the same. But if you don't, reach out and let me know what you are looking for...maybe we can create the next great thing together! Cheers!
