A few years back, my family would often go camping with some neighbors. We'd sit around the fire and drink beer or whatever people brought to share. One day, sitting at the campfire and deciding what to do for the day, my friend asked if I'd ever been "squatchin". Of course I said no - I wasn't sure if he was really talking about looking for Bigfoot or something else, because I'd never heard him even mention Bigfoot before.

So that night, our two families went out in the woods to look for Bigfoot. It turned out, however, that they really liked to just go out on an evening hike and scare the kids. They'd quietly toss a stick into the woods and then turn to the kids and say "did you hear that?"

It was a lot of fun and felt good to be active and not sit at the fire drinking all night. So we made it a regular thing to go squatchin' at least once every weekend that we went camping.

One of our weekend trips to us to Arkansas, where we were in a remote country motel with lots of wildlife around. When I woke up in the morning, as I laid there in bed being happy that I didn't have to get up yet, I started thinking about how everyone loves to talk about Bigfoot. Wearing a Bigfoot t-shirt often gets people to talk to you. They love to tell stories about Bigfoot or how some relative loves Bigfoot, or that there son's nickname is Bigfoot. So I thought it would be a fun business to sell Bigfoot products.

So I thought what kind of business name could I come up with about Bigfoot...and Squatchin' Country came to mind - as a business that wouldn't just carry 3-4 items, but anything Bigfoot-related that we could come up with. 8 years later, we're selling signs, Jeep taillight covers, soap, coffee mugs, cutting boards and we even write our own Sammie Squatch children's books.
