Squid Love!
Squids are incredible creatures! Let's not forget their family members cuttlefish and octopus! Since hugging a real, live squid would not really be feasible, let along probably kind of gross, I like to make plush squids that are fun to cuddle with.
All of this started because my husband found a giant plush squid online and said, "I want that!" "I can make that!" I told him, and we hit the fabric store! While we were there, I found some awesome fleece that wanted to be an octopus. With arms full of fabric bolts, our adventure began!
Cephalopods have unbelievable bio-camouflage. Did you know that experiments have been done with cuttlefish, placing a glass-bottomed container on a wild design, to see if the cuttlefish would mimic it? And they did! There's even a video out there of a cuttlefish attempting a black and white checkerboard pattern, and he did it! I like to choose patterns and colors of fabric that I believe cephalopods dream about. If I was a cuttlefish, I would love to try out paisleys, floral prints, and star patterns!
Now, not only do I make cuddly cephalopods, but am adding other aquatic friends to the mix! Loch Ness, axolotl, whale sharks, and narwhals are now available for adoption. AND several other plush buddies are on the to-do list, but those are secret so far.
