The creation of St8it
I’m a serial crafter; that means I like to try out different crafts and apply my creativity in the design process. My favorite materials to work with are metal (silver and brass) and fibers (wool and silk). I like to mix different materials and styles, and create out-of-the-ordinary but aesthetically pleasing combinations. My first contact with silversmithing happened in Spain while I was studying for a doctoral degree in oceanography. It was a way to disconnect from everything else, a sort of external meditation when working with the metal and watching its transformation take place in front of your eyes. That’s when I thought of creating State It Jewelry and begun to work full time at a studio in Barcelona in order to advance my techniques. At the same time, I started setting up the small studio at my home in Cyprus where all the magic happens. :)
The name of State it came up because I like to think that every piece has something unique to say. I like to create jewelry based on the lines of many different styles, and also I like to mix styles, and for this reason I believe almost everyone will find something that they like. However, I would never create jewelry that i wouldn't wear myself. I believe the more you like the piece you are working on, the better the result is.
I currently run two shops: State it Jewelry and its brother shop State it for men (www.st8it4men.etsy.com)
