Fine Art Equine Photography
I have loved horses for as long as I can remember. When I was about 7, my parents surprised my sister and me with a pony. We named her Kandi. Within a couple years we added another horse, a big Appaloosa named Scooter, to our family. We rode those horses all over the hills of Southeastern Ohio. They gave us freedom and friendship. I'm not fortunate enough to have horses of my own at this time, but I am fortunate that I can still spend a lot of time with them through my photography. One of my favorite things to do is to just hang out in a pasture with a group of horses and observe herd behavior. I enjoy capturing the intimate moments of horses’ lives, the quiet moments, things that we sometimes don’t take the time to see. Horses will show us if we are patient. I also strive to capture emotion in the eyes, light streaming through the mane. I like to do unusual crops that focus in on the expression in the eyes. For me as an artist, horses are the perfect subjects for my lens. They are beauty, power, grace, athleticism, comfort, and friendship, all in one gorgeous package. There is a quote I like by Pam Brown that I think sums it up nicely “A horse is the projection of peoples’ dreams about themselves – strong, powerful, beautiful – and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.” My hope is that my work is able to capture that.
I am privileged to be able to provide adoption photos for off-the-track Thoroughbreds for one of the best Thoroughbred after-care programs out there: New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program.
I also enjoy photographing the world around me: dogs and cats, nature, and rural life.
I am available for private photography sessions for equestrians, horses, and pets.
