About

We make exceptional handcrafted art supplies.

Stoneworks Mill was created in response to a desire to have a family owned business, and a severe love of the outdoors. Mrs. Stoneworks has been an artist her entire life. In addition she has been making things from "scratch" since she was small. In elementary school she would whittle sticks into "pens", crush berries into ink, turn field grass into paper and use it all to illustrate insects. Additionally she has been an avid rock collector since she can remember. Most of her spare time is spent outside hiking, biking, painting, swimming, exploring, canoeing, and more. Working as a science teacher at a nature preschool, Mrs. Stoneworks was already combining science and art prior to dedicating her time and energy to SWM.

Mr. Stoneworks is the ultimate outdoor adventure hound: repelling, skydiving, backcountry camping, living off of the land for a month in the deep woods of Canada (he still can't eat trout after having it every day for a month), traveling the world, rock climbing, etc. Additionally he is also a maker by heart, from doing woodworking to building gates and basements, to fixing his motorcycle, he is always finding ways to use his engineering skills.

Using their combined talents Stoneworks Mill was born. They hike, search, collect, carry, grind, process, mull and package all the paints in the hand-milled collection by hand. It is a labor of science. It is a labor of art. It is a labor of love.
