Kaitlin Swart started her journey with ceramics at an early age. At 6, she was taking her first art class, and building her first coil pot. At 13, she took a class and threw on a potters wheel for the first time, and was hooked. By 19, a kiln and wheel were purchased, and she began her studio as “Earthen Vessel Ceramic Studio”. Beginning her undergrad as a studio art major, Kaitlin was exposed to various firing techniques, and to crafting glaze and clay recipes. She also had the chance to learn form alteration and surface design from talented artists in the upstate and western Carolina areas. Kaitlin also had exposure to potters in both Europe and the Pacific Rim, which greatly broadened her artistic perspective. Today, now as “Studio Swart,” her pieces are enjoyed locally and abroad.

Her pieces are handmade from mid-fire stoneware, thrown on a potters wheel and fired twice. The glazes she uses are food safe, dish washer safe and non toxic.

She incorporates whimsical, unique and strong forms in her craft and enjoys using her art in the day to day. Kaitlin focuses on creating pieces with purpose and intentional function. When she is not in the studio, Kaitlin enjoys time with friends and family, mastering spike ball and playing volleyball, finding a new taco place or looking for another weekend adventure.
