Why tallow•tarian ?
tallow•tarian, you might say…
I’m a simple, granola king of girl who never has worn a lot of makeup, but happened to decide to concoct some tallow-based lip balm for my daughter’s stockings last Christmas (2022), and, well, that led me down a very unexpected journey toward curating all the tallow-based things.
So here I am bringing forth these things that I have been ardently working on and perfecting over the last few months. The name tallow•tarian just came to me one day, and it seemed appropriate. The suffix “arian” means to be an advocate of something…and well, I have become quite the advocate for tallow.
I had used and loved tallow for a few years, but never really did any actual research about why it is so good for human skin. I was pretty blown away at all the good things it does for the skin. The science behind its goodness is that our skin (sebum) can identify the chemical makeup of tallow because it is very near to our own, and so it readily receives it's hydration goodness. Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E and K, some helping the skin produce collagen, and slow down the aging process. It’s loaded with anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, it is ph balancing, and it doesn’t clog your pores because your skin recognizes it. It’s extremely nourishing food for the skin. Solid food. I use grass-fed and finished tallow from a small ranch in the US. It is a really beautiful and pure tallow.
All of the ingredients I use are as clean as possible, meaning raw, organic, and/or very high quality. I have endeavored to use small companies with humanitarian missions when possible; the mica pigments I use are ethically sourced, free from child labor (per the company’s statement). The fragrances I have chosen, when they aren’t 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils, are non-toxic and free of common endocrine-disrupting substances.
I am also an artist, and part of my vision for tallow•tarian is to bring art and beauty together, which is why I have chosen to feature my daughter, Raina Verhey's artwork on my gorgeous packaging. Her work is stunning, and you can find it at artbyraina.com.
Over all, the products I am offering you are the cleanest I have found, almost clean enough to eat, but probably don’t : )
I will always be looking for better and cleaner products to use, and will continue to be evolving and expanding my product line.
I really hope you like them as much I do.
Cheers,
Dawn
