Some of my favorite moments of my day are when I'm able to find a little time to spend in my studio with a nice cup of hot tea and my pencil and paints. I'm a stay at home mom, so sometimes it can be difficult to carve out these moments.
One of my favorite materials to use in my art is recycled tea bags. This works out well because my husband and I drink a lot of tea. I can paint, cut, rip, tear, draw on them and glue them down. Many times with unpredictable results which is my favorite part. Tea bags have a beautiful natural color which depends on the type of tea that was in them. You get wonderful stained areas too. They are very strong, yet have great transparency. Besides tea bags, I also enjoy using recycled coffee filters and other found papers in my work. Watercolor and acrylics are my paint of choice.
Much of my work is inspired by kids, especially my daughter. Many of my little girl pieces came about because of her. Living in a rural town produces endless inspiration from nature, it surrounds me.
I enjoy working with a lot of bright colors. My first bedroom as a little girl was painted lime green and my comforter had bright orange and yellow flowers on a bright lime green background. These are still my favorite colors to this day and you can find these colors in a lot of my work.
