Craft and curio inspired by nature
Welcome to Fern & Forest!
This is my answer to decades of searching for unique nature-inspired healing jewelry and oddities (yet to come). If you're here, maybe you've been feeling that deeper reverential, almost mysterious, connection humans have had with the forests and trees from time immemorial. You are in good company. There's been a resurgence of people looking to rekindle that connection; people who do not want to get sucked into the relentless electronic demand for your time and your cynicism. Fern & Forest is here to help whisk away all that anxiety-inducing nonsense and reintroduce you to the magic of all the small, seemingly hidden beautiful things around us. :)
Environmental protection is important to me. Here is what I am doing so far and some of my goals for the future:
1. Currently at the beginning of the life of my shop, I am sourcing 100% recycled packaging for shipping and using boxes that can later be repurposed by their new owner.
As the shop grows, I will be looking to use completely compostable materials and potentially hand dyed cloth wrappings to protect the jewelry and serve as beautiful gift wrap or a scarf or some other useful piece of unique wearable.
2. My business cards and promotional materials are made out of seed paper and printed with non toxic, eco friendly ink. Once you have my information saved, you can leave these materials outside where they can get lots of sun, sprinkle lightly with soil, water well and wait. Eventually the wildflower seeds will sprout, and we can repay mother nature some of the beautiful things she gifts us.
While the wildflowers are native to the US, there are region specific options so I could send an appropriate variety of seeds native to certain areas of the country. This option is of course pricey, but worth it I think. As the shop grows, I hope to be able to offer this option.
3. All of the organic material that I use in electroforming/plating, resin, et cetera, is gathered sustainably and conscientiously. For the most part, it is gathered directly from my wooded back yard and never in any kind of significant abundance. Plenty is left behind for the foxes, deer and million other animals who call those woods their home.
4. Speaking of resin, the one I'm currently using is Pebeo Gedeo crystal resin. These items will be added to the shop shortly. After experimenting with a number of different resins, this is the one I found to give the best, most consistent results; however, I am looking to get into eco friendly resins once I'm through this last bit I have. It's a new material to me, but I do want to be conscious of the environmental impact the material can have.
That all being said, I am always happy to hear your feedback or suggestions! Please don't hesitate to reach out with your eco friendly advice or things that you would one day love to see in the shop! I'm excited to share with you all of the projects I currently have in the works that will be making their way to the shop soon.
Thanks for looking!
