About the Founder
Hi! I’m Sarah — an herbal artisan, wellness advocate, trauma-informed restorative movement guide, and the heart behind Sugar + Spice Apothecary. My journey here began with survival, resilience, and an unshakable belief that nature holds the key to true healing.
I turned my journey of autoimmune illness, a near-fatal accident, and years of toxic medications into a mission: crafting organic, herbal-based remedies that truly work. Every product is handmade, non-toxic, and designed to replace harmful everyday items with healing, nature-rooted solutions.
I have a background in Western biomedical science from Washington University in St. Louis, yet most of my own healing came from Eastern medicine, herbalism, and holistic practices after a near death accident. That bridge between science and tradition shapes everything I do today. My background in western medicine, yet healing found in eastern medicines and holistic practices provide me with a unique perspective: I like to bridge the gap between both western and eastern medicines, educate on how these products work in the body while also offering more non-toxic, eastern, and holistic-based solutions.
From Crisis to Creation
In 2015, everything changed when my small coupe was T-boned by a large truck. I woke up in the hospital with a metal rod from hip to knee, screws in my elbow, a traumatic brain injury, and months of recovery ahead. The years that followed brought chronic pain, autoimmune flares, C-PTSD, and heavy reliance on painkillers and anxiety medications. I was placed on an overwhelming list of pharmaceuticals—antibiotics, Adderall, Xanax, Percocet, Trazadone, Hydrocodone, SSRIs—without a single conversation about root causes or natural options. These prescriptions masked symptoms but didn’t bring true wellness.
By 2020, after additional traumas and being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, I knew I had to rebuild my life from the ground up in a way that was natural for my healing journey. Rather than accept a lifetime of dependency on toxic, petroleum-based “solutions,” I turned to the earth—and to the ancestral wisdom that had been quietly calling to me all along. These apothecary products are the products I use daily for pain, cortisol/stress, anxiety, hormone balance, and overall wellbeing.
The Birth of The Non-Toxic Solution™
I purged my home of chemical-laden, petroleum-based products and began crafting my own—tallow-based healing salves for inflammation, magnesium sprays for muscle relaxation, herbal infusions for stress and anxiety. I sourced organic, local, and ethically harvested ingredients whenever possible, blending plant medicine, herbalism, and time-tested remedies.
What started as my personal path back to health became Sugar + Spice Apothecary™—a line of effective, non-toxic skincare and wellness products designed to work with the body, not against it. Today, I use these creations daily for pain relief, stress balance, sleep, hormone support, and overall vitality—and so do thousands of customers across the country.
