ThunderWing Jewels....a supernatural beastie's story.
Once upon a time....is how every great story starts.
I've been designing jewels since I was 12 years old. My father is an avid collector of all things odd, curious and cool. I would sit for hours going through boxes of what some would consider "junk" jewelry. I saw treasures. Each one was a mystery and a story to be told. I also fell in love with plants around that time. I would take any and all, especially the straggly sick ones and bring them back from the edge of death. My room was filled with them and it was agreed upon that I had a green thumb.
Fast forward 20 years. My son Wolfram was born and with his presence in my life came the overwhelming urge to create, constantly. I began making and designing jewelry yet again. This time using my knowledge of flora and fauna as my muse.
I have a degree in Wildlife/Environmental Horticulture and have spent most of my adult life wandering and stomping around various forests, swamps and hidden places that humans don't usually get to go. With these journeys I began to feel the mystic and the magical in every new step. I saw the beauty in imperfection and harmony that nature is, if given the freedom to be left alone.
My work is a representation of the objects, images, animals, plants that I see beauty, and supernatural power in. I tend to create one of a kind pieces that have their own stories attached to them, much like when I was a child. I prefer to look at a person or talk to them and make a piece that symbolizes them and the magic that they hold inside. I currently work at one of the most inspiring beautiful places on earth, Seven Arrows (www.sevenarrowsfarm.com/).
Perfection is utterly boring to me. Perhaps that explains my love of crooked teeth, off key serenades, standing alone in the forest, sleeping in the lion's den, oracles, floating in the ether, spirit animals, astral projecting across time and space, villains, swarmy hoodlums, rusty pieces of metal, magicians, thieves, homemade weapons, bloody lips, scars, storytellers, dead things, drunk bees, anything that begins with once upon a time, and supernatural beasties.
