I started Tim B Studio in Stillwater, Minnesota in 2023 to design and make heirloom furniture and just recently I started offering a small collection at my Etsy store.

ABOUT
After studying at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I spent many years as a minister and then web developer before returning to the furniture design and woodcraft. When I started my design studio I had a simple goal to create beautiful, functional, and satisfying furniture.
My pieces are not just about aesthetics; they’re about how we live. As a father of five, the pandemic forced me to think about how work, play, hospitality, and family all exist in a single space. I believe the objects around us shape our mood and emotion, and that good furniture makes an impact.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
I believe that beauty is evidence of care and attention to craft. Most of us live in a world that is bland and vacant. Our things are just good enough for the moment, and we rarely notice that beauty is absent.
As a neurodivergent adult, I manage my environment to bring a sense of calm and focus to my life. I use a practice called knolling, which involves arranging objects in an organized and visually pleasing way. This habit helps keep spaces uncluttered and items accessible, which aids both focus and peace. It is an activity that guides my design.
The principles of regularity, orderliness, symmetry, and simplicity are the core of my aesthetic. I design to satisfy our inherent need for spaces to feel whole. The lack closure caused by bad or broken furnishings negatively affects our mood and well-being. To keep my space feeling whole, I prefer trays over drawers, open volumes not hidden compartments, segmented surfaces rather than monolithic panels. When storage is needed, I fill it with light.
My studio furniture is a joyful celebration of individuality, offering a refreshing alternative to consumerism. By choosing just one bespoke piece, you embark on an exciting journey to reclaim your spaces and enhance your life. My work is fairly priced to reflect its true value, and I proudly ensure that all my projects are crafted with the finest techniques and highest quality materials available at the time.
CRAFT AND MATERIALS
I combine hand tools with modern machinery to create durable, beautiful objects. I resist industrial processes like CNC machines, and prefer solid wood over MDF, plywood, or veneers. I embrace the craft of hand-making, which means I strive for excellence but not machine-like precision. My finishing process is centered on longevity and repair. I use coatings to remove toxic VOCs, plastic feel, and difficult repairs. This is not fast furniture. It is made to last for generations, and I will personally repair any object I create.

For me, beauty is the feeling of satisfaction—the pleasure that comes from having an object built to the inch for your home. Good furniture should not just look beautiful; it should evoke sentimentality and memory. The best part of my work is collaborating with individuals and families to create something that is unique and meaningful.
