TwistedWool has been working hard to build and fine tune what we offer. We have participated in local shows and connected with many spinners, knitters and weavers. In the days ahead we will reload our ETSY shop - expect to be dazzled! See you then!

We dye our wool in small batches using acid dyes, heat set for color fastness, spin the wool into single ply yarn. Each batch of wool is unique and cannot be duplicated (we have tried!). Ruth Orvis is an avid knitter and uses size 8-10 1/2 needles. Lynda DeLallo weaves on a floor loom using 6-8 ends per inch. Thanks for looking!

The ball winder makes tiny center pull balls that end up tangling. As a spinner I am pretty disappointed in it as I can't use it for center pull balls that I spin into a two ply due to the way the fibers tangle. The swift works perfectly.

Hand Dyed/Hand Spun Wool

Dyed top is set out to dry after dyeing. The blotchy speckles will spin into each other and create exciting yarn.
Some of our hand spun yarn. Yarns are 100 yard skeins unless noted otherwise.
Lynda weaves the yarn into wearable accessories. This scarf was done on a rectangle frame loom.
Ruth knits wearable accessories and sweaters of many kinds from our hand spun yarn.
We start by dyeing our wool in small batches using acid dyes. Dyes are heat set for colorfastness

TwistedWool is our indie dyed wool and hand spun yarn. Color is what we are about.

Ruth started knitting at age 5 and learned to weave in college. During the Bicentennial (1976) she did demonstrations and saw someone spinning and had to learn. She spent the next 30 years with the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and did juried shows. After moving to Syracuse she shared her love of spinning with Lynda, who has spent her lifetime sewing clothing and migrating into making her own fabric by weaving. Lynda and Ruth dye wool together, spin and create wearable art together. They make each other better by combining their taste and styles.

Ruth and Lynda are the mother/daughter design team of Twistedwool. We do everything! Ruth was trained as an Occupational Therapist in the 50's, Lynda as a fashion designer. Both graduated from VCU. Combined skills make TwistedWool!

Care instructions

Wool must be handled carefully to prevent felting. Our wool has all been washed in cool or slightly tepid water, gently pressing excess water out and laid flat to dry. No bleach with wool! Hats should be shaped while damp.
