The reason I got into exploring and experimenting with drilling sea glass is unfortunately I broke my knee years ago, and I had a lot of time on my hands for 3 months! So I started looking through my sea glass collection. Hundreds of pieces....And one day it clicked in my mind that I could make something from these beautiful treasures. I researched some ideas and bought a dremel tool knowing absolutely nothing about what I was going to try to do or make.
Many hours were spent experimenting with diamond drill bits and breaking them. Finally I mastered drilling hearts into pieces of glass. Then came the Cape Cod outline idea, then anchors, whale tails, and whatever else I could think of.
Finally it came to wrapping up these treasures with wire. That's where the real creativity came out! Wrapping each piece was like a puzzle, but with all the time I had on my hands, I self taught myself to wrap each piece. Using 22 gauge tarnish resistant silver wire, I have wrapped so many pieces my fingers were sore! Now it's been years later and I have been lucky enough to explore different states and countries hunting for sea glass. I have used different shells like abalone and wampum and incorporated it with sea glass making many different pendants. I truly enjoy making every single piece of jewelry. It makes me happy, and I hope everyone can enjoy these unique ocean treasures!
