Behind the Art
We are a family ran business from Estonia/Sweden, creating clothing, jewelry, decor and artwork inspired by history and mythology. But before all that the name Valhyr was a page on social media where I, Renet, posted my artwork about mostly Norse and Finno-Ugric mythologies. Through online social media I even met my wife, Elin, who had a more academic approach to things. Today she has bachelors in archaeology and bachelors in cultural heritage as well as masters in archaeology.
We decided to join forces in conquering the world and making everyone interested in the past (mission on-going as of today) and thus we help eachother in our endevours. Our social media pages have grown into this little business here - and that is in its essence what Valhyr is and has become!
It is actually a goal of ours to push forward cultural heritage, folklore, history and all of that good stuff. In todays world where society, trends, fashion and everything around us moves so fast it has also caused culture to move fast and take a back seat. To me it seems that if people don't have a sense of belonging, they almost become lost on the way and life may seem meaningless, they pay less attention to their surroundings and don't respect nature or people around them. That's why I think it's very important to keep things like folklore, local art alive and also to build upon it.
Therefore it is also important for us to not only try to sell things, but create a bunch of content and fun things that may spark interest in people about the past. Elin for example has created multiple articles on this page that you can read to learn more about the past and our history, as well as she has a youtube channel where she explores these topics. In addition she has taught in multiple kindergartens, schools about history & culture as well as composed exhibitions in Swedish museums on difference topics of the past.
I on the other hand have a more technical backround (programming) and thus have created different fun tools on this site, like a bindrune creator, custom stave creator as well as a English to Old-Norse language model, that through machine learning can translate English words and sentences into coherent Old-Norse ones
