I am a trained mathematician and have always felt the need to express my thoughts about mathematical objects (not just geometric ones) in form of pictures, illustrations, drawings or even three dimensional structures.
Origami is one way to do just that. It allows to transform a piece of paper with a few simple rules into something more than just a plane surface. It can be a flower, an animal or a geometric structure. The possibilities are just endless.
I am working mainly in the geometric field of origami, i. e. tessellations. This style of origami creates repeating patterns only with a few twist folds. I am very fascinated of those and I enjoy the process of making them enormously. White elephant hide is the medium I mainly work in, it is a very durable german book binding paper.
Besides tessellation I also venture into modular origami from time to time. Since papers that you can get in the shops is usually too thick or comes in colour packs where the colours don't really match, I decided to come up with a number of my own colour schemes. Over the past two years I successfully created and sold a number of paper packs in various schemes (some are available here in digital form and may come back as paper one day). What I found most important is the quality and thinness of a paper, which is the reason why I stuck to 50g/m² papers.
