Announcement    Hi, I'm Sam and I run Vellana Fabrics. I sell lots of beautiful cottons, but I'm really passionate about making the arts and crafts world more sustainable.

WIth the support of Santander X and The Open University, we're working toward realising some carbon offsetting goals the textile industry so desperately needs.

When you shop with us, a percentage of your money is put aside to fund eco cottons, support local handmade fabric producers, and collaborate on research to know how best to make crafts environmentally friendly. This means you can get the brands and the fabrics you love, while knowing your money is being used to do good.

An independent website will be coming soon with lots more information on our direction and our support from Santander X and The Open University!

Frequently asked questions

If I buy multiple units will it come as a continuous length?

Yes, with one exception.

FQ Bundles:

FQ bundles may be pre-cut. If FQ bundles are NOT pre-cut, then they will be sent as a continuous length. E.g. if you buy 2 x FQ bundles, you will receive half a metre of each fabric where possible.
It's possible we may only have precuts left. In these cases, you might receive continuous lengths of some fabric in the bundle, and precut FQs for another fabric.

Sizing details

Fabrics are sold in 50cm units. Half a metre by the entire width of the fabric. The width varies per fabric, but this will usually be 112-114cm.
Therefore buying:
1 unit = 50 cm x 112cm
2 units = 100cm x 112cm (1 full metre)
3 units = 150cm x 112cm
4 units 200cm x 112cm (2 full metres)
and so forth.

For our 108 inches wide fabric, the same unit length applies by full width of fabric.
e.g. 50 cm x full 108 inches width.

Gift wrapping and packaging

- Packages are wrapped and dispatched within 2 days of purchase.

- Gift wrap items will not contain a price inside the package, and can come with a personal message and instruction to "Not open until Christmas/(date)" on the front. When the additional gift wrapping charge is selected, the package will be covered in suitably themed wrapping paper.

Delivery Problems

- Undelivered items are rare, but will result in a claim being opened with Royal Mail. They typically take 20+ days to give more information on a package and tell us if they will refund it or not. Because of this, we cannot refund or resend a package until we hear from Royal Mail as there are a small number of people out there trying to scam small businesses of earnings by claiming parcels never arrive (when they have) and getting a refund or a redelivery before Royal Mail respond with proof of postage. This makes it bad for the 99%, but we hope you can understand and have patience on the matter.

Can you resend my parcel?

A parcel is returned to sender when:

a) the address is incorrect
b) you have been advised to collect your parcel from a parcel depot, but have not within the given timeframe Royal Mail advises (usually one month)

In these cases where failed delivery is of no fault of us, or of Royal Mail, you will need to pay postage for the second delivery. This wil be a repeat of the same postage cost as the first attempt.

We buy our postage direct from Etsy, which automatically populates the address field with the one you have used to check out with.

Can I return my item for any reason?

We don't accept returns for cut fabric, this comes under the return policy for 'custom items' as the fabric itself is on a roll, and we cut it to size for your specific order.
We will consider cut fabric returns with a small surcharge to cover our irrecoverable costs. These include: postage amount paid (the actual amount on the postage stamp), Etsy fees, and a small cutting fee.

Do you do samples?

Yes, on our shop please go here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/909628816 and enter the name of the fabric you would like a sample of. This costs £1.
You can also copy/paste the URL if this is easier, the SKU, or the title of the product.

What is the weight/thread count of your fabrics?

This varies by brand. On our shop home: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/VellanaBlue

We list all our different brands/categories as sections of our shop. You can navigate to a specific section to view only e.g. William Morris fabrics.

Each brand will usually have the same weight and thread count throughout their products, but different brands may differ.

Most of our cottons are a medium weight quilting cotton. This means they're perfect for quilting, light upholstery, dressmaking, crafts, bags, accessories and more.

Kaffe Fassett cottons are a lightweight cotton. These are generally noticeably lighter than the other cottons we stock, which sometimes makes them better suited for crafts and clothing, but not so much upholstery!
