I was inspired by my dog
After graduating from the University of BC with a Masters Degree in Architecture, I set out on my own, building architectural models and taking commissions for furniture and renovations. Then we got Oliver - our Blue Heeler/Shepherd cross. One day, staring at his ugly feeding bowls in our small kitchen, I had the epiphany that I had to make a better one. Having recently acquired a vacuum press, bent ply was the obvious solution. It was an instant hit - that was 10 years ago.
Next came the Dog Pod. This became a truly iconic piece for me. I have been featured in Architectural Digest's Best of Design feature, in Elle Decor, and in dozens and dozens of other magazines, not to mention blogs.
My most recent success has been my Wall Desk. This summer, it will be featured at the PSFK Future of Living exhibition in New York.
In the last few years, I have been the primary caregiver to my kids, while my wife has provided the primary family income. It has been fantastic, and I cherish the time I have spent with them. Now, they are growing more independent, and I am again throwing myself into my work. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
