A husband and wife's shared love of vintage and repurposed relics of whimsy.
We are a husband and wife team who discovered early on our shared love of antiques and all things vintage. Lauren, who hails from Portland, OR inherited her Mom's love of all things cute and vintage, especially lampshades, canisters, vintage postcards, and anything Shabby Chic! Originally from New England, Michael also loves things vintage especially things Halloween, Christmas, Carnival, Side-Show, Nautical, Macabre and anything that reminds him of childhood. Together, we spent years exploring antique shops, expanding their love and knowledge of antiques (and each other).
We wanted to take up a craft that would allow us to go antiquing where we could resurrect forgotten items and give them a new life. In addition to our love of things vintage, we also have a large enjoyment of candles. It only seemed right to put these two things together, and soon we became candlemakers!
While we often put up vintage items we come across that tickle our fancy... our "bread-and-butter" are upcycled container candles. We make candles out of teacups, vintage antique tins, and anything else we can make into a candle! Everyone loves candles! Recycled as candles, we can bring back into the house beautiful antiques that might not have as much of a use on their own.
When it came time to think up a shop name, we wanted something that evoked positive imagery, and found an answer in the Robert Frost poem, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening". The feeling we get when we think of that poem is what we'd like people to feel when they visit out shop. We hope the site of our vintage items and the scents of our hand-poured candles will evoke memories from childhood's past. Come. Stop on by and see what we have in our woods. Enjoy!
