Welcome to Wickstrom Studio. I always paint on location, mainly in New York City and in the Berkshires. I work from life, as I’m interested in capturing the the distinct light and color of the moment, and in experiencing the world around me as I paint.

5 out of 5 starsPerfection...!!! This painting is for my Los Angeles office reception area - and it looks like it was custom made for my office. I have a small Moroccan rug that looks similar to the rug in the painting, and I have olive green herringbone client chairs that are same shade as those in the painting. No cute fluffy dog in my office, however...🥰 I framed it with a walnut float frame - and it gives such a warm, cozy feeling to my reception area. FAST shipping and secure packaging. What a fabulous way to start the New Year...!!!

5 out of 5 starsMy mother and her sister Kay grew up in Brooklyn. Kay married and raised a family there, her daughter went on to have 2 girls: Francesca and Gianna and so many of their favorite memories took place in their grandparents brownstone in Park Slope...When I saw this painting I cried because it was as if I was there, on the street outside of Aunt Kay's home, so when Francesca got engaged I knew exactly what I would be getting her to celebrate this powerful moment. Thank you. Your paintings transport and engage. (and arrive very quickly and safely as well!)

5 out of 5 starsThis is a lovely little painting. The colors are beautiful and look just like the photo on line. Can't wait to frame it and put it up. We used to live in NYC, so it's especially nice to have a painting of a familiar scene.

Thank you, Carla. I had a good time painting it from under a bridge in Central Park.

A Short Bio
Thor Wickstrom paints outdoors on the streets of New York and in the Berkshire hills, using traditional materials - a field easel, wooden palette, fine oil colors and linen canvas. he creates realist landscape paintings, cityscapes and studio interiors that capture the natural light of the moment and the vibrant colors of the day. Whether painting the Brooklyn Bridge, the Lower East Side, Inwood Park in Upper Manhattan, or the green fields of North Adams and Williamstown, Massachusetts, Thor returns to paint the places he loves. In the studio, Wickstrom's fondness for atmosphere and mood infuse his still lifes, figures, and interior scenes. Drawing inspiration from Impressionism, American Realism, Ashcan painters, and contemporary representational art, Thor creates works that reflect his own distinct character and vision.
Born in 1960, Thor moved to New York in 1979 to study oil painting at the Art Students League with Robert Philipp, Julian Levy and Joseph Hirsch. In 1984, he studied at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris with Jean Francois Debord. To better understand traditional oil painting technique, he has copied from masterpieces at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and at the Louvre in Paris. Offering his paintings for sale online, Thor sells to collectors around the world and accepts commissions for specific pieces.
He lives with his wife and daughter in New York City.
