Wild Dove Beads grew up under the brilliant blue skies of southern Arizona, overlooking majestic mountains and wild Sonoran Desert. Inspired by turquoise skies, carnelian sunsets and lapis evenings, the prospect of putting those colors together was irresistible.

Beads are part of every age and every culture, with a history that dates back to 38,000 BCE. They have graced both royalty and common folk. An intimate relationship with their owners, visible in the use of beads as decoration, currency, even payment for a splendid afterlife, gives testimony to their timeless nature. We express our individuality by selecting certain bead materials, shapes and colors, yet the universal appeal of beads remains a constant.

Drilling holes in stone beads was a difficult process to get right. Rough stone beads crack easily. Clever ancients finally devised double-drilling—the bead was pierced from both ends, causing the hole to “meet in the middle.” Even the unpretentious bead learned that to endure is to compromise.
