Yardwork

Ik begon mijn winkel met het idee om mijn eigen kleine stalen van handbedrukte en geverfde stof te verkopen. Ik heb de meeste stalen in papier ondersteund, zodat ze als boekdoek konden worden gebruikt. Het was een zeer uitgebreid proces waarvan ik al snel besloot dat het geen deel kon uitmaken van een praktisch businessplan! Na nogal wat soul searching besloot ik dat mijn ware liefde en kracht het ontwerpen van de individuele motieven was en zag hoe ze werkten in herhalende patronen.

Ik creëerde "Yardwork Clear Decor Stamps" zodat anderen konden genieten van de nogal zen-achtige ervaring van het met de hand afdrukken van "werven en werven van kunstwerken". Ik heb nu achttien sets patroonproducerende postzegelsets die alleen hier bij Yardwork.etsy.com kunnen worden gekocht.

Ik hou van de bescheiden esthetiek van de handprint: de kleine imperfecties en variaties. Als ik in stoffenwinkels winkel, vind ik deze esthetiek ontbreken! Daarom importeer ik nu ook handbedrukte stof uit een klein dorp in India, zodat ik hun ambacht en levensonderhoud kan ondersteunen terwijl ik mijn eigen ontwerpgevoeligheden deel.

Ik werk vanuit mijn huis in Brooklyn, NY, waar mijn hond Frankie en ik graag door de met bomen omzoomde straten in onze buurt lopen. Frankie helpt niet veel met mijn winkel, ze zorgt er gewoon voor dat ik af en toe een pauze neem!

Mijn dochter, Emili, woont in de buurt en ze is mijn hardste criticus! Ik zie haar graag als mijn afdeling kwaliteitscontrole. Ze komt regelmatig langs om te zien wat er bij Yardwork gebeurt.

I started my shop with the idea of selling my own small swatches of hand printed and dyed fabric. I backed most of the swatches in paper so they could be used as book cloth. It was a very elaborate process which I soon decided could not be a part of a practical business plan! After quite a bit of soul searching, I decided my true love and strength was designing the individual motifs and seeing how they worked in repeating patterns.

I created "Yardwork Clear Decor Stamps" so that others could enjoy the rather zen-like experience of hand printing "yards and yards of artwork". I now have eighteen sets of pattern-producing stamps sets that can only be purchased right here at Yardwork.etsy.com.

I love the humble aesthetic of the hand-print: the small imperfections and variations. When I shop in fabric stores, I find this aesthetic to be missing! Because of this, I now also import hand-printed fabric from a small village in India so that I can support their craft and livelihood while sharing my own design sensibilities.

I work from my home in Brooklyn, NY where my dog Frankie and I love to walk the tree-lined streets in our neighborhood. Frankie doesn't help much with my shop, she just makes sure I take a break now and then!

My daughter, Emili, lives close by and she is my toughest critic! I like to think of her as my quality control department. She stops by frequently to see what is happening at Yardwork.
