A beautifully hand painted ceramic plaque of “The Windmill of Wijk Bij Duurstede” by the Dutch painter Jacob van Ruisdael. The painting shows Wijk bij Duurstede, a riverside town with a dominating cylindrical windmill, harmonised by the lines of river bank and sails. The contrasts between light and shadow working together with the intensified concentration of mass and space. The attention to detail is remarkable. The plaque is set into a decorative gold-plated oval mount with crimped edging, with engraved roses on the reverse. The pendant hangs on a matinee length gold-plated curb chain with a barrel clasp. In its original red velvet Stratton jewellery box.
