Vintage Japanese Lusterware Tea Set – Hand Painted Geisha Tea Pot and Cups – Made in Japan

A vintage Japanese tea set consisting of a teapot and two teacups with saucers. The cups are made of porcelain with a distinctive gold luster finish and decorated with elegant scenes of traditional Japanese characters and cherry blossoms.
A special detail is the hidden image of a geisha on the bottom of the cups. When tea is poured into the cup, a portrait of a geisha becomes visible at the bottom—a characteristic feature of the so-called Geisha Lithophane, a Japanese teaware popular in vintage tea sets from the mid-20th century.
The teapot and saucers are made in the same decorative style and match the cups harmoniously.
Such tea sets were produced in Japan for export to Europe and the USA in the second half of the 20th century.
