Astronaut (blue&red)

Condition: as pictured, few bends around margins. Dimensions: 28.7 x 21.0 cm. The artwork is baring signature "Andy Warhol", in the lower right, done in pencil. Also numbered in the lower left, referring to a series of 300. The artwork has a reference number marked on verso, which in our opinion belong to the previous collections this artwork was part of. The artwork is offered as after the artist, sold as is.

Offering a fine limited Pop Art Portrait of astronaut, done in bold colors placed against blue background. The print shows early Pop Art and Modernism influence, as other portraits of the era. The paper is well preserved with some bends around the margins. On verso we find a publisher stamp and a reference mark under it. A very interesting find that will be a great addition to any art collection or interior.

The present image depicts the world-famous image of Armstrong’s photograph of Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin walking on the moon next to a waving American Flag. This picture captures the moment a man first set foot on moon during the Apollo 11 mission. Warhol created the Moonwalk Portfolio to commemorate this momentous achievement of the first man on the moon. He captures the magic, drama, and fantasy of the moon walk. Like any other great artist Warhol was looking to the future, by using this landmark moment in history as the focus of his art work, he preserves the emotion that everyone felt as one Neil took “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind“. The present composition is an iconic element of Warhol’s printmaking that illustrates not only the lasting impact of the moon landing but also the artist’s own profound effect on American visual culture.
