Herkimer Diamonds are natural, double terminated pieces of quartz. The ‘diamond’ in their name refers to both their clarity and natural faceting. They are harder than most Quartz varieties which might be because they are formed in a hard rock matrix. Herkimer’s can be clear or included, the black inclusions usually being carbon deposits, and sometimes they can be Smoky, exhibit skeletal Quartz formations, or even have Enhydro inclusions of water but this is a very small percentage of the crystals. They are found exclusively in New York, USA. Promotes dreams, visions, and purification.

Over time, as sterling is exposed to oxygen, it becomes darker and tarnishes. This can be solved by simply buying a polishing cloth (I never recommend using a liquid cleaner because it can damage the metal over time and possibly damage the stones, especially softer stones like pearls) but for a little extra help you can store your jewelry in small plastic baggies to prevent oxidation.
Also, some gemstones (such as those belonging to the Quartz family) fade in sunlight so make sure your jewelry doesn't spend long periods of time in bright windows!
