Per più di vent'anni, Alan Lees ha lavorato come scultore di successo, principalmente in legno. Quando l'artrite ha iniziato a rendere sempre più difficili le sue enormi sculture, si è rivolto a opere d'arte "ingenue" insolite e colorate in acrilico, dipinti pieni di movimento e attività, spesso raffiguranti una ricchezza di figure in ambienti tradizionali. La sua arte è stata variamente descritta in termini di Lowry, Fred Yates, Nonna Mosè e persino Breugel.
Durante la pandemia, Alan ha scoperto che avrebbe potuto riprendere a scolpire il legno, se avesse potuto sedersi e lavorare su pezzi più piccoli su una panchina inclinata. Di conseguenza, ha terminato una bellissima scultura dell'Ultima Cena e un set di scacchi intagliati a mano davvero straordinario, un collezionabile unico, con gli eserciti asburgici contro gli ottomani. Ci sono voluti più di sei mesi per scolpire, non ce ne sarà mai un altro simile, ed è attualmente in vendita, qui su Etsy! È un oggetto costoso, ma in realtà non ha prezzo.
Nel frattempo, abbiamo anche deciso di consolidare la nostra altra attività di restauro antico e occasionale qui su Etsy. Catherine Czerkawska - quando non sta lavorando ai suoi romanzi e libri di saggistica di successo - si occupa di bellissimi tessuti antichi e vintage e altre curiosità, spesso con una provenienza scozzese o irlandese. A volte gli oggetti di legno più piccoli vengono restaurati da Alan.

For more than twenty years, Alan Lees worked as a successful sculptor, mainly in wood. When arthritis began to make his huge, trademark carvings increasingly difficult, he turned to unusual and colourful ‘naive’ artworks in acrylics, paintings full of movement and activity, often depicting a wealth of figures in traditional settings. His art has been variously described in terms of Lowry, Fred Yates, Grandma Moses and even Breugel.
During the pandemic, Alan found that he could resume woodcarving again, if he could sit down and work on smaller pieces at a sloping bench. Consequently, he finished a beautiful carving of the Last Supper and a truly extraordinary hand carved chess set, a unique collectable, featuring the Hapsburg versus the Ottoman armies. This took more than six months to carve, there will never be another like it, and it is currently for sale, here on Etsy! It's an expensive item - but in reality, it's priceless.
Meanwhile, we have also decided to consolidate our other antique and occasional restoration business here on Etsy. Catherine Czerkawska - when she isn't working on her successful novels and non-fiction books - deals in beautiful antique and vintage textiles and other curios, often with a Scottish or Irish provenance. Sometimes the smaller wooden items are restored by Alan.
