Ukrainian owned and soon to be operated, Blue View Valley Farm is the legacy of our parents and grandparents. Our families were Ukrainian immigrants fleeing from their birthplace, a small village of Синевидне (synn-evy-dne) in the Carpathian Mountains. They were forced to flee toward the end of World War II. As fleeing Ukraine or death were their only options, they came to America with nothing but the shirts on their back and a dream to be free. The American dream was not given freely, it had to be earned. It was earned through their toil, sweat and sacrifice and they were more than up to the challenge.
Синевидне (synn-evy-dne) can be translated to “blue view,” or “I see the blue sky” and being high in the Carpathian Mountains, the blue sky was was always prominent just like the Ukrainian flag. The symbols of the flag of Ukraine are the blue sky above, which nurtures the golden wheat fields below. As you may already know, Ukraine is the “Breadbasket of Europe.” “The beautiful view” was the main reason for the purchase of the property- it very much reminded them of their birthplace, the place that many never got to see again.
As immigrants, it was extremely important to our parents and grandparents to support the sovereignty and integrity of the country they left behind while simultaneously working hard, assimilating and growing the country that accepted them with open arms. They loved both their new home and the country they were forced to leave. They may have been forced to leave but they never forgot their ancestral home.
Our family spent countless days, weeks, months and years at Blue View Farm. This land holds deep meaning beyond its pure beauty. Hundreds of photographs in our parents and grandparents old photo albums are from the farm. As children we loved hearing the stories and the fond memories of the parties, family gatherings and holidays and summers spent there. Unfortunately, the farmhouse, barn and land have not been tended to in over fifteen years and it is our dream to breathe life back into the old farmhouse and 100+ acres that reminded our parents and grandparents of the fields and valleys of the Carpathian Mountains.
This etsy shop was created to share our story, our brand, and help raise funds to improve and maintain the farmhouse and property. With structures from the late 1700’s and early 1800’s, this project will not be an easy task! We are finally free to dedicate the time, love and care it so desperately needs and with a little kind help from you, and lots of elbow grease, we can make our family dream come true.
