Hi! I’m Clare and I run Climbing Goat Designs.
I love drawing my patterns and running this shop. As well as making designs for customers all around the world via Etsy, my patterns have been featured in NASA social media, Cross Stitch Crazy, The World of Cross Stitching, Cross Stitch Collection, the Telegraph, Physics (the magazine of the American Physical Society), and BBC Sky at Night magazine. I have designed patterns for Just Cross Stitch, XStitch and Anchor Stitch magazines. My Antarctica Penguins pattern won Best Original Cross Stitch Design in the National Needlecraft Awards 2019.
I got into cross stitching through the stitching charity Love Quilts UK, and found I loved it. It’s so relaxing and meditative, as well as being easy to pick up and put down so you can fit in a few stitches here and there. I enjoy seeing the final piece come together and having produced something beautiful for someone else or myself.
I quickly wanted to start doing my own designs. I love experimenting with different ideas and then the ideas coming together into the finished pattern. The shop reflects many of the things I have loved all my life, including pets and animals, rainbows and bright colours, and astronomy - I have a physics degree and enjoy making accurate astronomy patterns. All the patterns are designed and charted by me, and the kits are put together by me, so I make sure they are all of high quality.
I don’t like charts which are difficult to follow, so I make sure my charts are clear and carefully choose symbols which don’t blend in to each other. Screen and print colours vary between different computers and printers, but the thread colours are chosen from real threads, not computer colours. The instant download and personalised patterns all come with charts in both black & white and colour, and with full beginnner's instructions. You may need Adobe Reader to open the instant download files. If you don’t have it you can download it for free here: https://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/ The framed images in the instant download patterns are for reference only – frames and materials are not included with pattern purchases.
If you have any questions at any point please contact me – I’ll always try and help.

Happy stitching!
