Who am I?
Hi, I'm Lynn, the maker, designer, and one-woman creative force behind Copper Magpie Designs, a small jewellery brand based in Liverpool dedicated to my two brilliant daughters.
I make bold, unusual, lightweight jewellery from premium epoxy resin, inspired by the natural world, science, and everything that makes you stop and stare. If a design makes me feel joy the moment I look at it, it earns its place in the collection. If it doesn't, it doesn't make the cut.
My philosophy is simple: tomorrow isn't guaranteed, so make a statement today.
Every piece starts life as a careful process of measuring, mixing, colouring, pouring, curing, demoulding, sanding, inspecting, and assembling.... and that's before the painting, finishing, and photography. Resin jewellery is slow, considered work, and I love every stage of it. More complex designs can take up to two weeks from start to finish. I also save every resin scrap to incorporate into zero-waste designs, because nothing goes to waste if I can help it.
The resin I use is durable, lightweight, non-toxic, VOC-free, and vegan-friendly, one component is even made from a recycled by-product of the oil industry that would otherwise go to landfill. Every pair of earrings is finished with hypoallergenic surgical steel hooks or posts, so they're comfortable enough to wear all day, every day.
My love of jewellery started at age eight with a gifted jewellery kit, and never really stopped- though it took a backseat when my first daughter arrived in 2018 and, as every parent knows, all the spare time you never appreciated simply vanished.
In 2021, my second daughter was born at home with PPHN (Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn). Living ten minutes from a neonatal unit likely saved her life, and after a few terrifying days she began to breathe on her own and came home. I will never stop being grateful to the NHS for the care she received. She's thriving now, full of life, and completely oblivious to how close we came to a very different story.
It was that experience, the sharp, clarifying reminder that life can change in a moment, that brought me back to jewellery making. I couldn't find the kind of pieces I wanted to wear: unusual, lightweight, comfortable, full of personality. So I decided to make them myself. That's how Copper Magpie Designs was born.
