The Scriptorium - rooms where the scribes of the Middle Ages would sit for hours on end, carefully and precisely writing and illustrating important religious or academic manuscripts. These illustrations often include marginalia or "drolleries" - accompanying pictures which may be, to modern eyes, rather rude! There is some debate as to the purpose of these bawdy drawings, but, whether due to bored monks or keeping away evil spirits, one thing is certain - the designs make fantastic, unusual gifts for history buffs, bardcore fans, and those who like their decor to be a bit "different".....
