Papel. Tijeras. Pegamento. Cuentas. Hilo. Cartulina. Cartón prensado. Bolígrafos
Esa es una lista de las cosas que me rodean cada día. Las cosas con las que me encanta jugar. Las cosas que transformo en otras cosas.
Siempre me ha encantado crear cosas. Siempre. Desde que era pequeña, recortaba formas de cartulina, las pegaba en otros trozos de papel y luego se las presentaba a mi madre como si fueran obras de arte dignas de ser expuestas en el Louvre.
Hablando del Louvre, una vez hice una maqueta del edificio con papel maché para un proyecto escolar. Tuvimos que llevarla al colegio en la parte trasera de la camioneta Ford de 1953 de mi abuelo. Saqué un sobresaliente.
Me encanta dibujar, sobre todo dibujos abstractos gigantes llenos de círculos, cuadrados y triángulos diminutos. También personajes de dibujos animados, gente graciosa con narices grandes (como Jerry el Bufón, mi avatar), gatos gruñones, pájaros locos y cualquier otra cosa que me haga reír. De vez en cuando dibujo un retrato, y mi técnica favorita para ellos es el puntillismo.
Así que empecé a hacer tarjetas ACEO en blanco para otras personas a las que les gusta dibujar y pintar, pero no les entusiasmaba el proceso de recortar sus propias tarjetas artísticas. Después empecé a cortar papel y cartulina en otras formas y tamaños. En algún momento "descubrí" los papeles para scrapbooking y diseñé algunas plantillas de sobres (algunos de mis sobres incluso aparecieron en el libro de Lark, Pushing the Envelope). Unos años más tarde, he hecho miles de sobres; y soy una coleccionista compulsiva cuando se trata de papeles para scrapbooking.
Y aquí estoy.
Ya no tengo mucho tiempo para dibujar (cuando no estoy cortando papel y cartulina, estoy trabajando con cuentas para mi otra tienda, time2cre8). Pero algún día volveré a hacerlo.

That's a list of the things that surround me every day. The things I love to play with. The things I turn into other things.
I've always loved to make things. Always. From way back when I was little, cutting out shapes from construction paper, pasting the shapes to other pieces of paper, and then presenting them to my Mom as if they were artworks worthy of being hung in the Louvre.
Speaking of the Louvre, I once made a scale model of the building using paper mache, for a school project. We had to take it to school in the back of my grandfather's 1953 Ford pickup truck. I got an A.
I love to draw, giant abstract drawings filled with teeny tiny circles, squares, and triangles. And cartoony characters, silly people with big noses (like Jerry the Jester, my avatar), surly cats, crazy birds, and whatever else gives me a chuckle. Every once in awhile I draw a portrait, and my favorite technique for those is pointillism.
So I started making ACEO blanks for other people who like to draw and paint but didn't so much like the process of cutting their own art cards. And then I started cutting up paper and cards into other shapes and sizes. At some point I "discovered" scrapbooking papers, and I designed some envelope templates (some of my envelopes were even featured in a Lark book, Pushing the Envelope). A few years later, I've made countless thousands of envelopes; and I'm a hoarder when it comes to scrapbooking papers.
And here I am.
I don't have much time to draw any more (when I'm not cutting up paper and cards, I'm playing with beads for my other shop, time2cre8). But I will again someday.
