Frequently asked questions

Is this set durable for frequent play?

Yes. Resin tiles are designed for long-term use.

Q: How many tiles are included in your Mahjong set?

A: Our set includes 166 tiles — 14 more than the standard 152-tile American Mahjong set. We include these extras to give you more flexibility for different gameplay variations and a few spares just in case.

Full breakdown:
• Dots: 36
• Bamboo: 36
• Characters: 36
• Winds: 16
• Dragons: 12
• Flowers: 16 (8 extra)
• Jokers: 10 (2 extra)
• Blank tiles: 4 (great for replacements or custom rules)

Q: What size are your tiles? Will they fit my existing racks?

Our tiles are Size 36: 36mm × 27mm × 19mm (about 1.4" × 1.1" × 0.75").

Most standard American Mahjong sets are Size 30: 30mm × 23mm × 13mm, so ours are a bit larger — roughly 20% taller and wider, and nearly 50% thicker.

The slightly larger size gives the tiles a more comfortable grip and a sturdier feel in hand, especially during longer games.

One thing to note: because they’re larger than standard, they may not fit racks or pushers designed for Size 30 tiles. If you plan to use existing accessories, we recommend checking the dimensions before ordering.

Q: Why aren’t the edges as smooth as machine-made tiles?

That’s a great question! Super-smooth edges on factory-made tiles usually come from large-scale polishing machines that tumble and polish tiles in big batches over several days.

Our tiles are made by hand in molds and produced as custom sets one at a time. We do careful edge finishing by hand, but we don’t run single sets through industrial polishing — it would add several days per set, significantly increase costs, and may impact the finish and custom details.

You may notice the edges feel a little more “hand-finished” compared to factory tiles, but they’re still comfortable to handle and play with. It’s one of the small differences that comes with creating truly custom tile sets.
