The ring is solid sterling silver, but with any patinas, the blackening on the stamping can wear down if the person wearing them is rough on their rings- it's best to remove all rings when swimming, washing hands, applying lotions and perfumes, and especially hand sanitizers. All of these chemicals can affect metals & patinas. Besides affecting the metal surface, chemicals can get trapped under rings and cause rashes. So it's easily preventable by just removing them during these activities.
If you'd like to re blacken the semi colon, it can easily be re blackened- take a black sharpie marker and draw over the surface of the indentation. Then while the ink is still wet, quickly rub it off with your finger or a cloth. This will leave the blackening in the stamped portion only. Should you need to polish the surface even more, a quick swipe with a kitchen scotchbrite sponge will also buff it.
