I'm 25, newly married (that's me in my avatar), hold down a job and do my etsy shop - I create my own patterns for my designs, hand knit everything in store and have created my own blog www.debs102.blogspot.com and have gained almost 150 followers in the last 3 months.

Today when I went to town in my lunch hour I got mobbed by some kids who kicked my walking stick, called me a cripple and spat on me. I got really upset heading back to the office - this isn't the first time it's happened or anything, but I hate being spat at...

I'm talented, driven, I've worked really hard to get to where I am now, I have 2/3 fits a week, am deaf and bi-polar, but still manage my life well - so why the heck can't I get to the post office with my orders without getting mobbed or gawked at?!

Sigh... Oh well, at least on Etsy I feel like an equal - it does seem to level the playing field a bit. I don't feel inferior when I chat to you on here.

Thank you Etsy for being accessible and keeping me sane...well sort of... ;)

I have one of your tea cozies and you certainly are gifted! Judging from your convos, you're very nice also. I'm sorry for what happened to you to today and hope that you weren't physically injured. Just remember, "Illegitimi non carborundum." (Don't let the bastards get you down)

This instantly made me mad.
I hate ignorant people.
I am very sorry this has happened to you, my sister in law is deaf and has had things like this happen to her as well, it is a sad world we live in when respect for others isn't taught to our children.
I am glad you don't let it get you down, keep doing your thing and let incidents like this drive you to move forward.

Don't let it get you down! There are nasty people out there and I can't imagine ever doing that to a person... but you are very talented and you have a great shop so stay strong!

That must have been very frightening also - did anyone come to your aid?

That's horrible! I'm so sorry this happend to you. People (especially kids) can be so cruel. It's good to see you can brush it off and keep a positive attitude!

Oh, that's terrible. Some humans just aren't very evolved, and apparently those kids' parents didn't teach them very well. Hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes.

You are not inferior anywhere - on Etsy or anywhere else in the world that you go. Most people are just out of touch with the fact that we are all fundamentally the same, all connected. It's hard sometimes residing in these fragile human shells.
