This blousey shirt was designed and whipped up in a frenzy of Victorian mojo after visiting one of my favorite shops in Berkeley, Lacis. While wandering through a historical pattern book, I found out the way the Victorian seamstresses made those beautiful blouses with the fluffy paunch in front, and I just had to try it; but I wanted to update it. Thus, it is sleeveless and has a bit lower neckline. It is made from a beautiful, gauzy, ivory cotton baptiste with eyelet flower embroidery. The aforementioned "fluffy paunch" gathers into a fitted band at the waist, and the back is very fitted with historically accurate seaming. Lace encircles the neck, with an overlay of intricately patterned baptiste. It closes with a row of antique shell buttons up the side.
It is light as air and perfect as a camisole under a suit, a warm winter party, or a stroll on a pleasant day. It is fairly transparent and shown here with my Degas Everyday Corset. I LOVE this combination. Click here to see it:
