Rosamund 2 is the child size version of Rosamund, which was originally designed to fit 18” dolls like American Girl (it can be found here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/91956693/rosamund-beret-pdf-knitting-pattern-for ). It’s a sweetly feminine beret done in a highly textured stitch pattern that resembles little flowers, and is topped with a plump pom pom. It’s worked in the round and requires minimal finishing.
Included in this version are three sizes:
• Baby (6 – 12 months), to fit a 16” head circumference
• Toddler/Small Child, to fit an 18” head circumference
• Older Child/Preteen, to fit a 20” head circumference
Hat is designed to fit with 2” of negative ease at brim, and 2” of positive ease for the body of hat. Finished hat circumferences are as follows:
___________Brim___Body
Baby..................14”..........18”
Toddler.............16”...........20”
Older Child......18”...........22”

The difficulty level of this pattern is: Intermediate - unusual stitch pattern is used, requires knitting in the round, increasing, decreasing.
What you will need in order to knit this pattern:
• Yarn - 250[275:300] yards of fingering weight
• Notions - Darning needle for sewing in ends
• Needles - Size US 2 (3.00mm) circular needle in 32” length (Size given is only a recommendation. If necessary, adjust needle size in order to obtain the correct gauge.)
Hat is worked with one long circular using the magic loop method. If you are not familiar with this technique, a link to a great tutorial is provided in the pattern. While in most instances I love my double pointed needles, I found they were not well suited to the stitch pattern that's used for the body of the hat, over such large stitch counts, as on every other row you'll be working with elongated drop sts, it becomes a nuisance to keep the DPNs from slipping out of the loose sts. There are of course other methods for working in the round, and there's no reason you couldn't choose one of those instead. The important thing being that it's comfortable for you.
