Announcement    SHOP POLICIES & POLICIES EXPLAINED: When you order from us you agree to all of our policies written in our shop (Here in Announcements, FAQ, Policies, listing descriptions.) IMPORTANT: Orders to Adults 18 years old and older only. Should a skin reaction occur discontinue use immediately. It is rare but metals and craft supplies can cause a reaction. I personally have a metal allergy which I've had as long as I can remember. I am also sensitive to glue fumes which is one of the reasons I created the dry adhesive seal item. Please ask if you have specific health or allergy concerns. I am not a doctor and can not give advice but I have heard many stories over the years pertaining to crafting.

Packing slips or copies of your order are sent to you digitally and can be found in your Etsy Account Purchases section. You can print paper copies from your Etsy Account at anytime. Should you need a paper copy enclosed with your order please add a note in the note box at checkout. Thank you.

Sale items are Final Sales. No exchanges. We now use video surveillance in our packaging room. Picked and packed orders are easily verified for all content. We do this because we want to verify our mistakes when they happen as it helps us to improve and seems to cut down our errors. We are also able to look back on orders that shipped or get damaged in transit.

Purple Mountain works everyday, in our own small way, to help save the planet. We take great pride in repurposing junk mail, mail order catalogs, paper sacks and reusing packaging materials to pack our Etsy orders. Today I saw where someone left a nasty review because our repurposing/recycling to wrap her order was not glamorous enough for her. As a reminder, I sell supplies. I am not selling the Gift itself. When I do sell the Gift itself I package accordingly. I do put effort in shipping my supply orders within minutes, during business hours, to within hours, during the timeframe after my mail pick up for the day, so my customers can make the time sensitive orders they have in their queue. I value every order and believe everyone should realize how much packaging we repurpose each year. In 10 years here on Etsy I am sure it has added up to a nice contribution.

Crafting takes practice and supplies vary from factory to factory. We suggest and highly recommend trying items by purchasing small sampler orders to start. Especially when it comes to the adhesive seals. Some people - often with thicker finger nails or reduced dexterity - have a hard time peeling off the protective covers. I do a series of videos showing in real time the use and methods of using the seals. The reviews will show that many people rely on these and some even say they can't imagine running their businesses without them. I still strongly suggest requesting a sample by adding a note on one of your orders or just ordering a few to try out - at your own risk. Most crafters experiment with new supplies quite regularly and understand that time, effort and risk are required when testing and trying new things.

Hey Friends! ****Promotions are below**** As always - Thank You so much for stopping by! If you just found us for the first time we would love to earn your business with inspiration, free knowledge, great products and innovative ideas.

HOW TO SEARCH OUR SHOP:
We are often asked how to get to the home page of our shop. Here is a link for your convenience.
https://www.etsy.com/shop/purplemountainbtq
You will see that we have categories (left side bar) within the shop to help you browse.
There is also a search bar where you can use keywords to narrow down your search. Hopefully, these search tips will be helpful as you shop around Etsy:)

Please read our policies and this page in it's entirety. We do EXCHANGES ONLY on non sale items and encourage new crafters to order small samplings of items to practice with. We are not responsible for loss or poor outcomes as crafting takes practice, has many variables and sometimes the materials get used up during practice. If you are not willing to put a few dollars into learning and creating your perfect process then we suggest you should probably not experiment with crafting using our supplies. Additionally, if you get frustrated easily trying new things we would suggest not using our supplies. If you are a first time shopper with us and order a large order of adhesive seals, for example, we may cancel/refund your order and request that you order a small sampler order - to be sure the item is right for you. We do this because sale items are final sales and we do not want anyone to be out a bunch of money on items/an item that just may not be suitable for their crafting process. We also do not want bad reviews due to frustration on a craft supply that may take practice and patience for some folks.

Crafting has many methods with a variety of supply options. Our DIY listings sometimes offer an array of supply diy kit options. Some listings are just one item. For example, if a listing title or the listing drop down selection says "Trays" or "bezels" or something to that effect and does not say "and glass" or "and seals" or something to that effect then the listing choice is just for the tray or bezel. Some crafters use glass -some do not need glass and may use resin. Some use seals and others use glaze or glue. When a shopper finds a supply they are interested I find that they appreciate not being disappointed to find they must get glass or they must get chains with the item they are interested. This is why we offer our items as separates in listings and as options in the drop down menus. If you are not sure what comes with the listing you are looking at, please send a convo prior to your purchase and I will be happy to clarify the specific listing.

Sizes are based on the inside measurement in most cases as the interior is where the photo/glass/cabochon go. This is the basis of this industry. The inside measurement is coordinated with our corresponding glass. If you are supplying your own cabochon or gem please realize it may just not fit perfectly or at all. These 'measurements' in this craft category are 'names' by the factories. I don't just name them on my own. Glass is named the same as a bezel but logic tells us that the glass must be smaller to fit inside. The names help crafters select items to coordinate their projects. We do not advise using a 16mm, for example from one shop with a 16mm from a different shop as the molds from various factories can vary by a hair here and there. This is important to understand.

Sale items are Final Sales. Exchanges only on non-sale items. Restocking fees and shipping fees may apply and are decided on a case by case basis. If you have specific questions or concerns you must ask in a convo. Thank you for doing that.

Most customers appreciate all of the free knowledge, customer service and information we provide freely, along with our quality supplies. We write all we write because we want people to be successful. Success comes with determination and perseverance - otherwise everyone would have online shops cranking out the sales. We don't want negative blamers. Honestly, who would, right?

Shop for pendant trays, craft glass that fits in our bezel trays, earring making supplies, interchangeable button jewelry, ring blanks, pendant blanks, key ring blanks, do it yourself jewelry craft kits, charms, bezels, bracelets, friendship bracelet cord, satin cord necklaces, handmade bracelets, cord ends, lobster clasps, photo trays, glass domes, jewelers resin, doming resin (resins have been discontinued due to safety and legal concerns) and jewelry and craft supplies.

PRODUCTS & SHOP POLICIES & GENERAL CRAFTING INFORMATION:
SIZES of PRODUCTS:
⦁ Generally, bezels and blanks are approximately 2mm in depth. The inside dimension is the size in the description because the craft we are making is all about the focal – cabochon - photo – image. The size of the bezel does not include the exterior trim or bail or loop or earring wire or any other decorative trim or peripheral element.
⦁ Generally, link style loops and tag style loops - as on link bezels, small charm – are approximately 2mm of less in size. This size is to be able to attach a small jump ring or lobster clasp clip.
⦁ Generally, bails on pendant trays are made in 2 versions. One is what we call large bail and this style is pretty large and can accommodate a typical chain with a jump ring on the end. They are 4mm-5mm. The other style is what I call a small bail style. This is a bail similar in size to the loops I just described which is approx 2mm or less. The only chain that will go through these without adding a jump ring is our 1.5mm ball chain. Ball chains don’t have lobster clasps or jump rings that would need to be quite small.
⦁ Generally, chains are typically about 2-3mm in size. A thin version chain is typically in the 2mm range. A chunky version chain is typically 3mm but the loops are thicker.
⦁ Generally, our brass and stainless steel bezels – the type that are manufactured using thin sheets of metal and the bezels are punched – the depth is approx 2mm and we refer to most of these as recessed. Recessed styles have a small rim tilted towards the opening. Domed glass fits snug and looks clean. The other style that is common in brass is what we call “cup” style. Cup style bezels are slightly deeper – closer to 3mm. The sides of the bezel are straighter and don’t have that rim tilt aspect. These cup style bezels look great with flat glass. Some people use flat glass with the 2mm bezels and it creates a dimensional look which is quite stunning.
⦁ Generally, flat glass is approximately 3mm thick. Domed glass curves, of course so the thickness at the edge fits nicely in a shallower bezel. Hopefully, this all makes sense. We work hard to try to make sure you have access to these details so you can make informed decisions based on how the supplies fit and work together.
⦁ Generally, chains lengths are offered in 18, 20, 24, 30, 36 inch depending on the style. Chains are hand cut and are not always precise in length and can vary by 10%. Please don’t look at these measurements as precise. It’s just impossible. We try very hard to get the best quality and describe the best we can. Crafters working in this field understand and appreciate the availability of these items rather than looking for fault.

THESE CRAFT SUPPLIES ARE AWESOME FOR PEOPLE WHO TRULY WANT TO MAKE THE CRAFT!

CRAFTING SUPPLY OPTIONS EXPLAINED: Crafting has many methods with a variety of supply options to select from. Our DIY listings sometimes offer an array of supply diy kit options. SIZES & MEASUREMENTS EXPLAINED: Sizes are based on the inside measurement in most cases as the interior is where the photo/glass/cabochon inserts. This is the basis of this industry. The craft supply industry does not use really precise measurements which can be frustrating at times. It is something crafters like myself had to get used to if we wanted to enjoy the crafting supply price structure, which seems lower than art supplies or fine jewelry supplies (generally). If you have your own cabochon we can not guarantee if will fit into one of our bezels. Our craft niche is a category of supplies to be used with photos. Photos can be trimmed to fit inside the bezel. We only recommend using the glass we offer as it is made to fit our bezels. Other suppliers and factories also make bezels and glass made within the same size category, 12mm for example, but could be a hair smaller or larger than our 12mm. With 100s and 100s of factories making supplies we strongly recommend you buy both bezels and cabochons(glass domes) from the same source to get supplies that fit together nicely. If you have a stone or gem you are trying to find a setting for I strongly suggest looking more towards the fine jewelry or brick and mortar jewelry stores for precisely sized settings. We can not be held responsible for third party cabochons not fitting/working with our craft supplies.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS EXPLAINED: In general, our supplies need no real special care with the exception of silver plated items. Silver tones always tarnishes when exposed to air or environmental factors. It will oxidize over time. In some cases it takes a year if the item is alloy or a few weeks if the item is brass or iron. With care and attention, you can easily offer shiny silver items without worry. Keep your supplies dry, wrapped up in plastic/tissue paper. If an item does tarnish use a silver polish or cloth to shine them up. If you are selling silver items to the public you will want to provide care instructions for silver items. Some people have no idea that silver requires care and attention. Sometimes plated gold also needs some care. Remember when everyone had a jewelry box with lots of velvet crevices? Antique finishes really do not require much care at all :) When considering Glazes, Glues & Resins - they should probably be used in a reasonable time frame once opened. If you have questions please ask. External factors can play a role, too. Temperature, moisture, and light. (We no longer offer resins or glazes because we were repackaging bulk supplies from our mfr and with safety and legal at the forefront now a days we just didn't want to assume risk as we were mostly offering those supplies as a convenience.)

SILVER PLATED BRASS EXPLAINED: Silver plated brass (a large percentage of our items are brass) that tarnishes is sometimes showing the raw brass from underneath, which is why it looks golden in tone. Also, silver plating is a thin thin layer of silver, which is often made up of a mix of pure silver and other metals such as copper (~7%), aluminum, zinc, for example.) If you wait until the piece is at this stage and you use silver polish to try to shine the item you risk actually rubbing that thin silver coating right off the base metal. This explains why regular maintenance is important. Gentle maintenance. This same principle could apply to silver plated iron and other plated base metals, as well. If you store the supplies in airtight containers wrapped tightly in plastic of tissue paper you will not see this tarnish issue -until exposure to air and skin oils, etc.

STAINLESS STEEL EXPLAINED: Craft jewelry components are basic stainless steel. Stainless steel contains at least 10% chromium in most cases and, depending on the grade of the stainless steel; it may include smaller percentages of nickel, molybdenum, titanium, niobium and other metals. Although stainless steel jewelry doesn't tarnish, it can scratch and possibly corrode depending on use and misuse. Stainless steel jewelry is pretty easy to clean. I have been told Sheila Shine if a shiny glossy finish is sought after. I find it to have a strong odor. We are often asked about higher quality stainless steel. For example: What's the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel? The simple answer is 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel while 316 contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. The molybdenum is added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts). Our craft items are not these versions unless specifically stated in the listing. The price points don't generally fit our target market and it is unrealistic to expect .50+ items to be fine jewelry grade, but sometimes we get lucky and find an earring back or a post in 304. The craft factories have stopped using nickel, based on their compliance with international laws. Nickel is the ingredient that causes allergies, generally. I have not heard of allergies in about 10 year. Prior to that I hears about allergies somewhat regularly. I believe the ingredient nickel has been removed. We don't test our product as it would be too difficult to even know if the supplies were from the same batch, etc. But I have heard there are test kits available on the internet to self test. People with autoimmune or autism issues seem to test many day to day items for allergens.

FREE INFORMATION EXPLAINED: Purple Mountain has been offering artisan handicrafts since 1994. Now specializing in DIY Craft Supplies - Helping crafters with free information and inspiration. VIDEOS AND TUTORIALS: If you are just starting out you may find our videos and tutorials helpful. Here is a link: http://www.purplemountaingifts.com/pages/TutorialsVideosDIY.htm

HELPFUL TIPS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER: I wanted to take a moment to add some general tips, hints, explanations and comments. After many years on Etsy, we have lived and breathed helping others learn how to make glass photo craft jewelry, I recently felt compelled to make a list of random tips. Please note that we do not make claims of perfection and absolutes as crafting has far too many variables but I am offering my opinions from heartfelt personal experience. Your opinions and experiences may differ from mine. I also learn from you. Some points here may not be relevant to the particular listing you may be considering but if you are browsing the shop then maybe you will find something that is helpful.

DESCRIPTIVE WORDS EXPLAINED: First, I use many words as descriptors. For example, the word "vintage" is a descriptor. Vintage and Classic description is a look, not a mfr date. By ordering you agree to understand that you must ask us in a convo, message or note about our descriptions if you are looking for items other than inexpensive craft supplies and may be confused by terms like "copper" or "platinum" or "gold" or "silver" any other word that can have multiple meanings. These are colors not precious metals. Some items are plated but it's a thin layer of silver or gold. Keep in mind - these are craft supplies not jewelry supplies.

PHOTO CRAFT SUPPLIES EXPLAINED: Glass Craft Photo Jewelry Making Helpful Tips:
Sometimes newbies may need clarification on terms - the terms - bezel, tray, link, pendant, cup style, recessed style - generally refer to a craft component that you could fill/decorate with a cabochon such as a corresponding size glass piece. Glass size (25mm) fits a bezel (25mm), for example. The outside dimensions may not be listed so please ask. Some people call all glass 'domes' even when they are flat - so please keep that in mind :) Others refer to all glass as tiles. Please ask if you are wondering.
⦁ In regards to glass, domed means the top is rounded and the bottom is flat whereas flat means the top and bottom are both flat.
⦁ In general, the base material of a metal craft component for jewelry in our shop) is generally brass, metal alloy or iron.
⦁ Brass is a softer metal which is usually punched into a shape to create the component. The tray size can vary a tiny bit on the top versus the bottom just due to the mfg process. Bails are often soldered on and are not unbreakable when adjusted through bending or straightening. Do not bend or ‘straighten’ soldered on bezels, loops, posts (earrings, cuff links, brooch pins) or bails as this weakens the bond.
⦁ Metal alloy is melted to a molten liquid that is poured into a mold to create the component. Bails and loops are part of the mold and generally sturdy.
⦁ Iron is most often used for chains for necklaces and bracelets. A trick to know if something is iron is by seeing if a magnet will attract to it. Silver chains can be brass as it tends not to tarnish quite as quickly compared to iron when silver plated. But both metals tarnish which silver plated.
⦁ Brass and metal alloy are not magnetic. Iron is and will attract a magnet.
⦁ The color descriptions (with the exception of silver plated and gold plated) are generally the tone of the piece, not the material. For example, copper is a color not a material. If you wonder please ask.
⦁ The color ‘shiny silver’ or ‘silver’ is silver plated and used interchangeably, according to the manufacturer. Silver plated is a very thin layer of silver over a base metal. Gold has a very thin layer of gold over a base metal. This is not a proven plating - meaning there is no certification showing pure gold or pure silver. Our policy is that the color is a description not a precious metal. If you research plating though it says the layers would be a thin layer of a precious metal. I tend to think that with the value of precious metal it seems illogical so our stand is that the color is a color description rather than a precious metal. Although, Silver plated items will tarnish at some point so logic tells us there is pure silver in the plating - but how much is really the unknown.
⦁ Silver is the finish which requires care and upkeep. If the base metal is metal alloy the piece will not tarnish very quickly. Some alloy pieces can take a year or even several years to show tarnish, but it depends on other factors and can vary, of course. I don't think I have seen many of my alloy supplies tarnish in all of my years working with them - unless a random piece was under a drawer cabinet for 8 or 10 years and started to turn golden. Brass, on the other hand, will tarnish much more quickly – as in a week or a few weeks depending on environmental conditions. Iron seems to tarnish the most rapidly, in my experience.
⦁ There are ways to maintain the brilliance of silver plated and toned items but it requires some due diligence. Understanding the reason for tarnish is helpful. Tarnish is caused by exposure to air/oxygen and oils from your skin, among other external factors. This starts the oxidation process. It is important that the piece is wiped off with a jeweler’s cloth each night and stored in the velvet crevices of a jewelry box, or between cotton in a box, or in a felt pouch, for example. These same principles apply to storing your jewelry supplies. Wrapping them in tissue paper and/or tightly in poly bags and stored in plastic bins is a great start.
⦁ Silver plated brass that tarnishes is sometimes showing the brass from underneath, which is why it looks golden in tone. If you wait until the piece is at this stage and you use silver polish to try to shine the item you risk actually rubbing that thin silver coating right off the brass. This explains why regular maintenance with a jeweler’s cloth is important. This same principle could apply to silver plated iron and other base metals, as well. A liquid silver polish may be a good choice to try when the tarnish is extensive or on chains.
⦁ There really is no perfect substitute for the beautiful shiny silver but tones we like, which can be considered, are platinum, which looks like a shimmery thumb tack, or stainless steel, which is a bit darker and will not tarnish the same way that silver does. Platinum, which is also called platina, is tarnish resistant but still has some silver in the plating and is prone to tarnish but at a slower rate than shiny silver plated. Rhodium is becoming more readily available as the cost seems to be coming down on that finish. Rhodium has not been shown to tarnish. Craft supplies in rhodium are not too common at this point.
⦁ We are often asked how to adhere a graphic to a piece of glass. There are many ways but the 2 most common ways are by using glues or glazes or by using an acid free archival quality 2 sided dry adhesive seal that is clear and sticky on both sides. The quality of the seal is very important. Neither of these processes waterproof the image under the glass. If you need your image waterproofed then two part resin is the best craft method.
⦁ Glaze and glues are used with matte card stock paper because the paper will allow a bit of absorption to help facilitate the adhesion of the image to the smooth glass. You will need to watch for bubbles forming and check to be sure the glass does not slide off the image in the crafting process.
⦁ Dry Adhesive Seals are used with glossy paper because the seal/sticky disc require a perfectly smooth surface. We do not advise using luster, matte, quick dry or commercially printed paper for the images because they are, most often, not perfectly smooth. Seals are sensitive to texture, dust or oils. (oils from your fingers, finger prints). Due to the many variables, seals can take practice but really are quite simple. I have great results using glossy laser paper or glossy photo paper. It is important to note how ink jets put ink down. Sometimes black ink will go onto paper thicker which causes a 'texture'. I have solved this in my own personal crafting by using a thinner paper such as Hammermill Glossy Laser Paper. A high quality bright white copy paper has also been shown to work well. Always check to be sure your printer settings match your paper. Many printers work best using the mfrs brand of paper - ie, Epson paper with Epson printer. Read your printer manual to be sure you are following the mfr recommendations.

IMPORTANT: Adhesive seals do not waterproof your image. When purchasing seals for the first time - buyer must agree to test a small sampling of seals at buyers own risk/cost. Our shop policy is exchanges only -Sale items are Final Sales. Seals cost is somewhat low and buyer would be responsible to shipping both ways, making sampler costs of less than $4-5 is cost prohibitive. The reason for this policy is because crafting has many variables - we discuss in great detail on our video/tutorial webpage and here in our shop. Sometime crafting is unpredictable. Crafting takes practice. If it were easy everyone would be doing it. We encourage first orders to be a small sampler pack or a small kit with seals as an option. If you order a large first time order of seals we reserve the right to reach out to you and possibly even require a smaller first time order so you are sure they meet your expectations. Regardless of which method you choose, experimentation with your specific variables will probably be worth the effort. I have seen so many examples of gals who have struggled for a week or two and now years later have thriving Etsy shops and we smile when we think back to those first few days as we worked to find the perfect methodology.

GLAZE USE EXPLAINED: When using glazes there are some variables to consider. Will the glaze cause the ink to run? Will the glaze cause some trays to turn color (green, usually). Will the glaze adhere well enough? From my experience, glossy Mod Podge is my “low risk” choice because, in my experience, the ink will not run and the end result is fantastic. Mod Podge is a sealant which is why the ink will not be compromised. Your image will pop. My paper of choice is Epson Presentation Paper, used with an Epson Artisan Ink Jet printer, which is a matte card stock. It is always best to experiment and test one piece of glass and let it set for a few days to fully cure before you make a mass production and adhere it into your bezel. My experience may not be your experience.

"ANTIQUE FINISH" VS "VINTAGE" FINISH DESCRIPTORS EXPLAINED: Antique finishes can vary. Sometimes they appear more 'dirty' and 'vintage' and other times they are shiny and smooth with a vintage look. Chains in antique bronze and antique copper can sometimes feel like they have a residue on them. It seems sort of sticky. This is really out of our control. I have been told to hang them as they were not fully dried. One gal said she washed them with a diluted solution of white vinegar and Dawn detergent. I have not tried that method so I don't know. The cheapie craft supply business always keeps us hoppin' with ways to correct hastily made supplies. We love our customers because they understand these issues and appreciate us enough to work with us and not against us. Thank you! We love you!

HOW TO ADHERE CABOCHONS INTO BEZELS EXPLAINED: Another question we are often asked is how to adhere the finished piece of glass into the bezel? The safest and fastest way is with our dry adhesive seals. They are made in the USA. There is no wait/dry/cure time, it is non toxic, and the adhesive is so permanent you had better not misalign your glass because you may not be able to pry it back out. Or - You can use a jeweler’s glue like E6000. Be aware that E6000 can “eat” through the back of some papers and compromise your image. You may need to seal the back of the paper first. Epson brand paper is the only paper that I know of that works with E6000 and does not need to be sealed but I still advise testing your 1st piece and let is sit for several days as the curing can continue for 5-7 days.

CRAFT GLASS EXPLAINED: The glass is craft glass, not optical glass. If you hold it to the light before you attach your graphic to it you may see silica, which is an ingredient in the glass. This is not visible to the naked eye once you get your image adhered. Over the years, the glass has gotten much better. My personal opinion is that flat glass is very, very clear. Domed glass is the most popular and fits the bezels, pretty much, seamlessly at the edges. If you need optic glass or high quality then our craft glass would not be right for you. Some pieces may need to be tossed out so please build that into your cost structure. I have a trick in my own personal crafting. If I see a scratch on the flat side I can use it on a busy design and will not be noticeable. Maybe that is why I love flat glass – I have 2 sides to review and usually if one side has a flaw the other side does not and I can still use the glass.

ARTISAN CRAFT COMPONENTS EXPLAINED: We sell craft components. Not every piece is perfect but they are pretty darn good. We work very hard to find the best within the category. We even double silver plate many of our silver items so the silver is super shiny. We also have our glass packaged specially from the factory to minimize scuffs and damages. In bulk, the glass is often packaged in trays so each piece has its own slot. Many customers buy the glass in 500+ piece bulk boxes now and love these new trays. Our smaller packs come in 2 piece poly bags or 10-20 pieces in a poly bag for smaller sized glass pieces or even 100 is the 12mm. We often pick the pieces for your order from the tray packs. We find the glass to be very, very good quality, based on the available glass offered in the craft industry. We also have used this glass in our own crafting business. Our 12mm often comes 100 in a pack. The color/finishes of our metal supplies can vary by batch. This is out of my control. Computer screens can effect the color perception. Our supplies coordinate by color tone and are not perfect matches. One main reason, besides batch variances, is each metal takes the color in its unique way. An iron chain will take a color differently that an alloy pendant, for example. The supplies coordinate nicely, in my opinion.

WHERE DO THE SUPPLIES COME FROM? Our adhesive seals are made in USA, according to the manufacture of the material. They are industrial cut to shape by us in Florida. Metal and glass supplies are made in China, with the exception of our steel metal buttons and inserts, which are made in USA. Metals are tested by the factories in China. The factories advertise that they comply with the international laws from the era of around 2009 when nickel was removed and ingredients such as lead and cadmium were monitored as to not allow more than trace amounts, if any at all. We do not test here. We encourage buyers to look into testing kits, which are available on Amazon and other places, for testing of nickel, lead and other things.

A BIT ABOUT CRAFTING AND HEALTH ISSUES:
Also, if a person has low immune function, sensitivities, or other health issues it is always best to stay away from the typical (metals, toxic chemicals, etc) items of all kinds until health issues are sorted out and doctors clear the sensitivities as they build up the immune system. I am not a medical professional - these are my opinions only and are not medical advise. We do not advocate crafting if it is not compatible with a person's health status.

CRAFT SUPPLIES EXPLAINED: If you are looking for jewelry components or art supplies we may not be the shop for you as we are a craft supply shop. Please ask if you have questions or pick a sampler listing as a low risk test. We will not be responsible for overbuying. Sample and test and read our reviews.

PLATING & LOBSTER CLASPS EXPLAINED: Sometimes plating causes lobster claps to appear 'frozen' shut or defective. Here is a link to a video showing how easy you can resolve this without breaking your nails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2CwMmrekpg

LEVERBACKS EXPLAINED: An example of something that may not be 'perfect' but has reasons behind it are the leverback earring supply. All leverbacks I have ever seen or heard of need adjusting with the wires and levers - there are reasons with leverbacks. My customers tell me they prefer I don't adjust them (as I describe in a second) they prefer to adjust them as the more they are adjusted the more they can weaken. People who use resin will always adjust the wires once the earring is made and they are hanging it on a card.
⦁ Regarding the hinges: The hinges will free up if you put your thumb on the hinge and carefully open and close them keeping your thumb on the hinge. When the hinge is plated it can be worked back and forth to loosen it.
⦁ Regarding the wires: The wires need to be adjusted on nearly 100% of the leverbacks of all sizes to close evenly, hang on cards, straighten, etc. Also, they are plated by hanging on a wire and are not closed to meet because the plating will freeze them closed and then the plating must be broken to unfreeze.

METAL ALLERGIES - CONVERSATION ABOUT NICKEL, METAL INGREDIENTS, IN GENERAL:
• I wanted to discuss the topic of nickel (the ingredient often responsible for allergic reactions), lead and cadmium. Back about 10-15 years ago laws were enacted to provide for products worldwide. Each Seller is required to prove safety for products sold to anyone under 14. The way to provide a certificate of safety is by contracting a lab to melt down each product from each batch and analyze the ingredients to see if they fall within the legal limits. It is very expensive and would need to be done continually for every item ordered and reordered costing more money per year than I could predict - maybe even more than our estimated sales. If you think about that, it is pretty much an impossible task. Even if we did continual tests, how could we possibly know if each little piece in each bag is from the same batch made in China? And remember, the item tested is melted/ruined and unsalable. How can I stamp everything as 'safe' and guarantee that everything is safe when the safe pieces were ruined/melted? If you have the answer I would love to hear it. The fines of $100,000 per offense and jail are more than I would think anyone would want to risk. I have not reviewed whether the laws were amended since 2009 when many of us children's mfrs consulted lawyers and made a mass exodus from the baby and children's industry. Also, I am not a lawyer and make no claims to what I believe to be true today from a legal sense. That being said, I know I am allergic to nickel. I know I used to hear from customers asking about their allergic reactions. I have not heard of allergic reactions in many years... maybe 7-10+ years now. When the lead laws were first passed, lead could be tested using an XRF machine. We sent in many of our components for testing. The majority of our components tested within the limits and that was back in 2010, before the factories made many of their adjustments. The factories we buy from sell worldwide, of course. They produce products that should be legal worldwide. We do not have any reason to believe the products are not safe but for our own protection we only sell to adults for adult use. I have been told that the government provides testing kits and many parents of autistic children test their household items. We encourage our buyers to reach out to the agencies in those industries and do their own testing. Or we advise playing it safe and purchase from the jewelry industry (more expensive) rather than the craft industry (cheapie/less expensive).

DROP DOWN MENU EXPLAINED: HOW TO USE THE DROP-DOWN MENU FOR PURCHASES: I realize this seems sort of nonsensical but we must state it. Options features are a wonderful tool which allows the buyer to select items/options to purchase by using a drop down feature. Due to the many crafting processes (explained above) we offer various supply options in many of our listings as a convenience using the function of the drop down menus. It is important to understand, where applicable, if you select a supply, like glass or seals but no bezels or no chain (components with colors/finishes) on one drop down menu of choices but you select a color in a second drop down selection we will only send the item you paid for. For example, if you select and pay for glass only in one drop down but select a color/finish in the second drop down you will only receive the glass (no trays/bezels). Please ask if you have a question.

INSPIRATIONAL PHOTOS EXPLAINED: I often include inspirational photos of finished items or coordinating accessories like key rings, bracelets, necklaces, or charms. These items are only included if they are in the title or in the drop down menu of supply options. Please ask if you are not sure. If I include a chain in a photo for inspiration, please realize we often offer 4 lengths and possibly 3 thicknesses. Therefore, we require that you actually put a listing for the chain style you would like into your cart. It's sort of like buying a shirt on a clothing site. The model is probably wearing pants, shoes and jewelry but the listing title is for a shirt. You would have to shop further sections of the website to pick out these other ‘inspirational’ outfit adds ons.

SHIPPING COSTS PERTAINING TO EXCHANGES AND GENERALLY - EXPLAINED: In some cases shipping cost is included in the product cost. This is a value of $3.50-8.00 in regard to exchanges or returns. Please ask if you need further explanation.

INSURANCE, DISPUTES EXPLAINED: INSURANCE/DAMAGES/DELIVERED (but not in your mailbox) POLICY: We ship via USPS. We have an optional listing under our banner for insurance, signature, etc. We only file claims via third party insurance. When you purchase insurance you are purchasing 3rd party insurance and we will handle any claims for you when notified within 72 hours of delivery. If you do not purchase third party insurance but ship Priority Mail with insurance included via the USPS you can file a claim with the post office and we can supply you with any information you may need to do so. If something arrives to you damaged a claim will need to be filed in order to receive compensation. Each case is specific and unique and we work with the 3rd party insurer here on Etsy to provide the best outcome they can offer but only when you purchase insurance specifically as an add on in the cart or through the listing under our banner. If a parcel says Delivered but you don't have it the best thing to do first is contact the local post office branch. The carrier could have delivered it to your neighbor by mistake and may try to retrieve it. The neighbor may bring it to you or drop it back in the system for redelivery. If you have signature tracking you will be covered but insurance does not cover these kinds of ‘delivered’ situations. This is important to understand.

DISPUTES AND CASES EXPLAINED: CASES: I work hard to be sure everyone is happy. This is VERY important to me. I say it multiple times in my shop info - order a sample to try. Also, understand that artisan craft items can vary from piece to piece so if you need perfection these supplies are not for you. We want to resolve issues amicably through convos and abiding by our written policies as we do not just randomly make deals or offers. Resolutions are best when done together - not through CASES. IF you open a case with us we reserve the right to decline future sales.
In conclusion, I am here to help you. I hope you found some value from my not so random list of helpful hints, tips and explanations. Please don't hold me liable for each word I say here and attack me with misspeak as I am trying to help people who want to be helped. (It is a sad day that I even have to say that last remark.) I truly wish you great success and happiness through crafting! It really is rewarding making your own unique piece and presenting it to someone who will smile and think of you when they see it each day.

SAFETY EXPLAINED & NOTICE: The issue of safety and laws has been touched on here in my policies, explanations and helpful tips. Due to the un-ending increase in legal concerns we sell mainly to US destinations. Destinations outside the US, buyers assume all risk when purchasing. Even within our own borders it is mind blowing the enormity of regulation involved in safely making a simple craft that I enjoyed when I was a kid, learning how to be self sufficient and buy things I wanted that my parents didn’t want to get for me –like my contact lenses or a pair of overalls – ahhh the memories. I was selling at craft fairs as a school girl. Anyway – back to the nitty gritty – if you are worried about safety and compliance with the laws of California, for example – I can’t say I do or I don’t comply so we will assume we don’t comply and you should shop in shops that do comply. I apologize but really, how can I know for sure. I get some of my snap components here in the USA – made in USA – and they say they don’t comply. Sorry but this is the world today. Hopefully, everyone is more aware of keeping pieces and parts out of the hands and mouths of youngsters. That is a parenting issue.

LEGAL NOTICE:
Our items are intended for adult purchases and to be used by adults only. Small pieces can be a choking hazard to young children. We sell only to adults over 18 years of age. By purchasing you agree to keep items away from children under 18 and indemnify seller of any and all liability of any kind. Buyer agrees to release Seller from any and all liability when making the decision to purchase. By making the decision to purchase our items you agree to be responsible for all laws in your state and country applicable to the safety and handling of the products and all other legal and safety issues. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ask questions if specific issues are not stated in my listing. We recommend that you always purchase a sampler order/piece to test. If you do not understand crafting please do not buy from our shop. NEVER give craft pieces to babies, toddlers or children under 18. After seeing recent commercials - to clarify - Craft supplies are not EATS - ever. Any resulting litigation is decided in Manatee County / Florida court by arbitration.

Announcement

SHOP POLICIES & POLICIES EXPLAINED: When you order from us you agree to all of our policies written in our shop (Here in Announcements, FAQ, Policies, listing descriptions.) IMPORTANT: Orders to Adults 18 years old and older only.

We have a Final Sale Policy but we do exchanges except on sale items. Most of our customers know us and buy the same things over and over. We encourage a low risk sampler order when trying new things. We need to hear from you within 3 days if there is a problem or issue. If you want to exchange please send it within 7 days of receipt. Sale items are Final Sales. No exchanges on Sale items. Orders are processed without delay. Therefore, I have a no cancel policy. Please take this into consideration when making the decision to order.

PACKING SLIPS/RECEIPTS: Packing slips or copies of your order are digital and can be found in your Etsy Account Purchases section. You can print paper copies from your Etsy Account at anytime. Should you need a paper copy enclosed with your order please add a note in the note box at checkout. Thank you.

I value every order and believe everyone should realize how much packaging we repurpose each year.

Frequently asked questions

When will my order ship?

We process orders as they come in and ship daily by USPS. Our pick up is generally around midday but varies EST. If your order comes in we try our best to get it out immediately, as we stay caught up 24 hours a day :) Please check our banner and announcements for updates.

Can I have my order ship FedEx instead of USPS?

FedEx Ground is offered on a per order basis. We do not ship FedEx Express. FedEx tends to bill estimated costs upfront and then rebill overages later making this a poor system, in our opinion. Maybe this will change or maybe we had several unlucky situations. Please add a note in the box at checkout. Our turnaround time may increase by 1 (or 2) days because we will have to drop the parcel off at a FedEx drop off.

Do you ship on Saturdays?

YES!! We ship nearly every Saturday, We try to post an announcement on our banner on our home page if we can't ship due to taking a break or illness. Please check to be sure - but 99.9% of the time we do ship on Saturdays.

What countries do you sell to?

We ship to the US, Canada, Australia, and Non-EU European countries only. If you are having trouble ordering please reach out to us. If you are trying to place an order but are having trouble please send us a convo and we will research the situation to see if we can ship to you. Customs and duty will be your responsibility. Sorry to be so harsh.

What is your policy regarding Safety and Legal?

Items are intended for adult purchases and to be used by adults only. Small pieces can be a choking hazard to young children. We sell only to adults 18+ years of age. By purchasing you agree to keep items away from children and indemnify seller of any and all liability. Buyer agrees to release Seller from liability when making the decision to purchase. By making the decision to purchase our items you agree to be responsible for all laws in your state and country applicable to the safety and handling of the products and all other legal issues. Please ask questions if specific issues are not stated in my listing. We recommend that you request a sample to test. If skin reaction-discontinue use. Litigation is decided in Manatee County Florida.

Can you explain the measurements of your craft supplies?

MEASUREMENTS - Craft pieces have descriptive measurements which can vary due to the handmade nature. Some people refer to items in inches and others talk in millimeters. Often times, for example, 1 inch and 25 mm are used interchangeably even though they are not the same exact measurement. We try very hard to offer items that work together and we can not be responsible for slight variations in size descriptions. 16mm trays work with 16mm glass, for example, We welcome your questions and will not be responsible for dissatisfaction resulting from artisan characteristics perceived by the buyer as flaws or vague. Please request a sample to test with your project. Handmade-artisan lengths can vary by 5-15%. Measurements are not precise.

Why do you refer to your craft supplies as 'artisan'?

Many of our items are made in China. Items are made in small batches and many are handmade. Craft pieces can have artisan characteristics out of our control. Keep in mind that our craft supplies are inexpensive for what they can create. Most people are thankful and appreciative. Each batch can vary slightly in color and other features. As an artisan crafters myself - for over 25 years - I try to inspect each batch of inventory as it arrives and I try to add comments and updates to the listings. It is hard for me to know which tone each customer has had previously. Please, please ask if you have any questions. I will try my best to work with you to get what you are searching for :)

Do you offer discounts and coupons?

Absolutely!!! Pricing is set as everyday pricing because I understand that many buyers like to order in small quantities. I do have a bulk section for listings 100+ which do often times have better rates so please check out that category and see if those items may work for you. Feel free to shoot over a convo and I can check inventory and see if I have an overstock you may not see in the bulk section. My goal really is not to run out of things :) without sacrificing on offering great quality craft components at reasonable pricing.

Do you offer tracking, Insurance, Shipping Upgrades and Sampler listings?

TRACKING is located on your receipt in Etsy. There is a link for updates right on your receipt (upper right corner) for your convenience. Your receipt is found under "YOU" "PURCHASES".
INSURANCE can be purchased through this link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/117775507/top-of-the-pile-samples-priority-express?ref=shop_home_feat_1&frs=1 I
Insurance is provided through USPS for Priority and Express and you would have to file any claims. If you purchase Insurance from the listing above then we would handle the claim as it is 3rd party insurance. Please convo if you have questions.
UPGRADES: You can find upgrade in 2 locations - your choice. We have the listing link up above with several options. You can find options in the cart at checkout.

Care instructions

In general, our supplies need no real care with the exception of silver plated items. Silver always tarnishes when exposed to air. It will oxidize over time. In some cases it takes a year if the item is alloy or a few weeks if the item is brass or iron. With care and attention, you can easily offer shiny silver items without worry. Keep your supplies dry, wrapped up in plastic/tissue paper. If an item does tarnish use a silver polish to shine them up. If you are selling silver items to the public you will want to provide care instructions for silver items. Antique finishes really do not require much care at all :)
Glazes, Glues & Resins should probably be uses in a reasonable time frame once opened. If you have questions please ask.

Where can I find your full policy explained?
