Mit 62 Jahren genoss ich als pensionierte Innenarchitektin meine neu gewonnene Freiheit und die Zeit mit meinen Enkelkindern, merkte aber, dass ich immer noch eine (nun unerfüllte) Leidenschaft hatte: „Etwas Schönes zu erschaffen“. Eines Tages, als ich ein Glas voller Knöpfe betrachtete, die meine Großmutter gesammelt hatte, kamen mir schöne Erinnerungen an sie zurück. Ich fand es schade, dass diese Vintage-Stücke jahrzehntelang ungenutzt und unbeachtet geblieben waren. Für mich hatten sie eine Geschichte, eine Geschichte zu erzählen, und sie waren wunderschön.

Ich beschloss, aus einigen Knöpfen Grußkarten zu basteln. Dann fertigte ich kleine Anhänger aus den Knöpfen an und fügte sie den Karten hinzu. Eines Tages wurden aus ein paar Anhängern Ohrringe, dann aus Ohrringen Armbänder und, nun ja, ein Jahr später war Born Again Buttons and Beads geboren.

Es fühlte sich sofort richtig an. Über die Jahre hat sich alles weiterentwickelt. Ich werde dieses Jahr 78 und in den letzten Jahren ist das Nähen von Taschen, Beuteln und Accessoires zu meiner Leidenschaft geworden. Meine Produktpalette ist vielfältig, aber alles ist nach wie vor handgefertigt und ich verwende weiterhin „gut erhaltene“, wiederverwertete, recycelte und gespendete Materialien, um daraus ganz neue Dinge zu schaffen – schließlich sah Gott eines Tages mein großes Potenzial. Er nannte mich kostbar und schön, obwohl ich mich alles andere als schön fühlte. Er nahm mich auf, klopfte mir den Staub ab und schuf mich zu einem ganz neuen Wesen! (2. Korinther 5,17) Es bereitet mir Freude, Altes neu zu machen, Weggeworfenes begehrenswert und Geschenke zu schaffen, die Menschen schätzen werden, weil sie eine Geschichte zu erzählen haben.

At age 62 I found myself a retired interior decorator who loved my new freedom and time for grandchildren, but realized I still had a passion (now unfilled) to create "something beautiful". One day as I pondered a jar full of buttons collected by my grandmother, it brought back fond memories of her. I thought it a shame that these vintage items had gone unused and unappreciated for decades. To me they had a history, a story to tell and they were pretty.

I decided to make greeting cards using some of the buttons. Then I made little charms from the buttons and added them to the cards. One day a couple of charms became earrings, then earrings became bracelets and well, a year later Born Again Buttons and Beads was born.

Immediately, it seemed right. It has evolved over the years. I'll be 78 this year and the last couple of years sewing bags and totes and accessories has become my passion. My product line is a little of this and a little of that, but everything is still handmade and I still choose to use "gently used", up-cycled, recycled & donated materials to make brand new things - after all, one day the Lord looked at me and saw great potential. He called me precious and beautiful when I felt anything but. He picked me up, dusted me off and made me a brand new creature! 2 Cor. 5:17 I delight in making old things new, discarded things desirable and gifts that people will cherish because they have a history and a story to tell.
