Pattern No. 5 - Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come
This pattern is the fifth in my Ebenezer Ornament Series, a set of hand sewn wool felt Christmas ornament patterns inspired by Charles Dickens’ delightfully spooky Victorian novella, A Christmas Carol. More patterns in this series will follow.
This detailed, intermediate level sewing pattern shows you how to make an embroidered, sparkly, Spirit of Christmas Yet To Come ornament. As written by Dickens, this spirit is an eerie, silent specter who guides Scrooge through a frightening vision of his future, ending at his grave. The ghost features an embroidered and beaded gown and robe, voluminous hood, and a pointing hand. A bonus ornament of Scrooge's snow covered gravestone is included. Both ornaments feature the year embroidered on the back. This detailed project is perfect for your own Christmas tree or for special handmade gifting. These ornaments are sewn and crafted entirely by hand.
Choose your own colors, or follow my pre-chosen colors of Benzie Design felt, floss, sequins, and glass beads. HOW HARD ARE THESE TO MAKE? I'm often told my sewing patterns are more akin to a craft class! I give very detailed instructions so you aren't left wondering. While this is not a beginner's sewing project, it is probably easier than you think! If you can work small, do precision cutting of pieces, sew basic hand stitches well (running stitch, whipstitch, and backstitch), work with seed beads and sequins, wire snips and pliers, and are familiar with basic sewing and embroidery terms, then you can make this project and make it well!
HERE'S WHY: this pattern utilizes a Sulky brand water-soluble stabilizer which makes putting the ornament together easy, quick and accurate. The design prints or copies directly on the stabilizer, which is then adhered to the felt, and you embroider/bead right on top of it! NO TEDIOUS PATTERN TRACING OR EMBROIDERY TRANSFER. Fantastic! (If you can't use the Sulky stabilizer, I've also included tips for that.)
The 25-page Ghost of Christmas Present sewing pattern features:
- 3.75 x 5 inch wool felt Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come figurine ornament with embroidery/beading
- 3.5 x 3.25 inch wool felt Ebenezer Scrooge Gravestone ornament with embroidery/beading
- 3.5 inch hanging loops
- Tracing sheet with 15 years of dates to embroider on the back of the ornament
- Neat, digitally drawn, actual-sized printer ready pattern pieces that do not overlap
- Step-by-step, detailed instructions with clear, professionally drawn diagrams and color sample photos
- Resources section with stitching diagrams, tips, and supply links
Materials used to make this ornament include: wool or wool-blend felts, cotton pipe cleaners, unfinished 20 mm wood bead, Peltex, embroidery floss, seed beads, sequins, glitter, stuffing, and a Sulky Stick 'n Stitch. A complete list of materials is in the photo of the pattern page above. Zoom in to read through it.
