This cast relief sculpture depicts a mother and calf Humpback Whale pair, swimming together though a deep and dark ocean, some filtered sunlight illuminating them....

My preference in the past has been to create ' larger than life' illustrations, but that is not something easy to achieve with whales and a limited amount of space! I've tried, though, to express 'powerful movement', and a bit of the mystery and wonder these amazing creatures evoke in most everyone.

I begin with a pencil sketch or two, and then create a sculpture in soft clay. From this original sculpture, I make a rubber mold. Into this mold , I pour hydrostone plaster to make permanent editions of the clay piece. The editions are then colored by hand. The result is a combination of the best effects of two and three dimensional artwork which can be hung on a wall without the need of costly framing. I'm certain any whale or nature lover would be thrilled with this item!

IMPORTANT
There is also a concrete edition in my shop for outdoor or tile installation, at a little extra cost. I do not recommend installing the hydrostone plaster items as permanent tiles.

There are hooks on the back to hang the sculpture like a picture.
