Seduced by rhinestones and glitter! Hooked on crochet!
Ever since I can remember, I have been seduced by vintage rhinestone jewelry and glitter. From the days when I tried on my siblings' sequinned tap dance costumes (and later my own), to the rhinestone studded dress for my music recital or the sequinned spandex of my disco dancing costumes. I love anything that shines. While I taught myself to crochet as a teen to pass time while babysitting late at night, using patterns from my Mom's "Workbasket" magazine, I made crocheted afghans and scarves, and even crocheted dresses. A few years later, I ended up in love with vintage rhinestone pins and jewelry. One summer while working at a small factory near my Dad's GE plant, Dad hustled me out of the house early one afternoon so he could stop at the local yard sales before dropping me off and then heading to his evening work shift. While he scooped up old bottles and tools, I discovered a trove of iridescent vintage rhinestone jewelry, and became an antique jewelry collector ever since. Now, I am torn between glitzy vintage jewelry and all the wonderful new glitzy yarns from around the world. I think they have taken over my house, but I love sitting in the midst of all this wonderful iridescence!
