„Ich hätte gern ein Dip-Ei, bitte“
"I would like one dippy egg please"
Ich habe diesen Laden eröffnet, weil ich es satt hatte, dass meine Familie und Freunde jedes Mal, wenn ich etwas für sie gemacht habe, sagten: „OMG, DU SOLLTEST DIE VERKAUFEN“. Also bin ich hier und verkaufe diese. Was auch immer „diese“ an einem bestimmten Tag sein mag. Ich mache gerne viele verschiedene Arten von Dingen. Es ist ein bisschen Mischmasch, aber ich bin auch ein bisschen Mischmasch, also ist alles gut. Ich gebe mein Bestes.
Nun zum Namen:
Meine Großmutter und mein Großvater (Nana und Pop-pop) lebten in einer Einliegerwohnung, als mein Bruder und ich aufwuchsen, und bevor wir in die Schule gingen, machte Nana uns Dippy Eggs. Sie fragen sich, was ein Dippy Egg ist? Es ist ein Spiegelei, das man mit der Seite nach oben kocht, dann umdreht und NUR EINE SEKUNDE lang gart, damit das Eiweiß fest wird, das Eigelb aber flüssig bleibt, sodass man es... nun ja... eintunken kann. Erst viel später im Leben wurde mir klar, dass nicht jeder so etwas „Dippy Egg“ nennt und dass der Begriff „Dippy Egg“ für Leute außerhalb von Pennsylvania verwirrend ist. Der Begriff „Ei“ hingegen ist angenehm und vertraut und aus diesen Gründen habe ich beschlossen, diesen kleinen Laden Dippy Egg Designs zu nennen: Genau die richtige Mischung aus „ja, ich weiß, was das ist“ und „was zum Teufel soll das bedeuten? Ich bin neugierig“, damit Sie einen Blick darauf werfen!

I started this shop because I was sick and tired of my family and friends saying 'OMG YOU SHOULD SELL THESE' every time I made something for them. So here I am. Selling these. Whatever 'these' happens to be on any given day. I like making lots of different types of things. It's a little bit of a hodge-podge, but I am also a little bit of a hodge-podge, so it's all good. I'm doing my best.
Now about the name:
My grandmother and grandfather (Nana and Pop-pop) lived in an attached in-law apartment while my brother and I were growing up, and before we went off to school, Nana would make us dippy eggs. What is a dippy egg, you ask? It is an egg cooked sunny side up, then flipped over and cooked for JUST A SEC so that the white hardens up but the yolk stays liquid so you can...well...dip. It wasn't until much later in life that I realized not everyone calls this a 'dippy egg' and that the term 'dippy egg' is confusing to people outside of the Pennsylvania area. The term 'egg', however, is comfortable and familiar, and it is for these reasons I decided to call this little shop Dippy Egg Designs: Just the right mixture of 'yes I understand what this is' and 'what the heck does that mean? I'm curious' to make you take a peek!
