Scraps of silk become ‘Threads of Silk’
Threads of Silk was born out of a desire not to waste fabric. After years of making costumes, dance-wear and tutus I had amassed a huge pile of small pieces of fabric that I couldn’t bear to throw away. These scraps of fabric became the inspiration for ‘Threads of Silk’.
We are a small operation and as such we do not seek to compete with mass manufactures. Our aim is to produce good quality, well made garments that can be passed down from generation to generation. Whilst some items are made from commercially available patterns others are made from out own hand drafted patterns that are not available eslewhere. All our garments are made with a great deal of love and care and this is reflected in their price. It is our hope that our garments are the antithesis of throw away fashion.
We try to source all our fabrics responsibly. Many of our garments are made from remnants of cotton, silk and bengaline that would otherwise be throw out and go to land fill. Some of our pieces are one offs quite simply because there was not enough fabric to make more. Where possible we seek to use up-cycled materials that are of a sellable quality. In these small ways were are working towards a more sustainable product.
